Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Domaine Grand's Trousseau à la Dame "Le Mont Royal" 2022
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a vivid cherry hue, edged with violet glints at the rim of the glass, while retaining a lovely clarity.
Nose
The nose expresses a fine aromatic complexity dominated by ripe red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. It then opens onto spicy notes of white pepper and aniseed, rounded out by subtle touches of undergrowth and truffle.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and refined. The generous, fruit-driven attack gives way to well-integrated tannins in the mid-palate. The whole is supported by a lovely tangy freshness that carries the wine through to a long finish with mineral and spicy accents.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with hearty meats such as braised beef, veal in a creamy mushroom sauce, or game such as duck and wild boar. It also complements dishes rich in umami wonderfully well, such as preparations featuring truffle, porcini mushrooms or aged parmesan, as well as oily fish like smoked salmon.
Service and Storage
This Trousseau à la Dame "Le Mont Royal" 2022 already shows a lovely profile but will continue to evolve favourably. It should be enjoyed until around 2028.
Other Characteristics
This wine stands out for its dry profile, as fermentation consumed all of the grape's natural sugars.
The Authentic Expression of Jura Terroir by Domaine Grand
The Estate
Founded in 1692 in the village of Passenans, Domaine Grand is a historic figure of the Jura vineyards. After experiencing significant expansion during the twentieth century, the estate took a new direction in 2015 under the guidance of its current owners, Emmanuel Grand and Nathalie Morin. They chose to reduce the vineyard's surface area to 10 hectares in order to focus on quality and the precise expression of the terroirs. Certified organic, the estate cultivates its vines according to biodynamic principles, thereby showcasing the region's native grape varieties.
The Vineyard
The plots dedicated to this cuvée are located in the Mont Royal sector, within the Côtes du Jura appellation. This high-altitude terroir benefits from thermal variations favourable to the ripening of the berries. The vines, some of which are a century old while others are between 35 and 50 years old, thrive on complex soils composed of grey, red and white marls, as well as clay-limestone substrates. The vineyard is farmed organically, with natural grass cover promoting biodiversity and microbial life in the soil. The harvest is carried out by hand.
The Vintage
The 2022 season offered highly favourable weather conditions. The vines benefited from adequate sunshine and sufficient moisture during the crucial periods of flowering and fruit development. Disease pressure was perfectly controlled throughout the growing cycle, allowing for the harvest of healthy berries at optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winery philosophy is based on minimal intervention in order to preserve the pure expression of the fruit. After a rigorous sorting of the berries, the vinification of the Trousseau à la Dame "Le Mont Royal" 2022 is carried out in a traditional manner. The wine is then aged in old barrels, allowing its structure to be refined while respecting the identity of its terroir of origin.
