Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024 from Domaine Matrot
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate golden reflections.
Nose
Of great aromatic complexity, the bouquet unveils scents of white flowers, such as honeysuckle, mingled with notes of toasted hazelnuts, citrus and brioche, all underscored by a mineral imprint evoking limestone.
Palate
The attack perfectly combines concentration and finesse. The texture is generous and slightly buttery, while being perfectly balanced by a saline backbone and an elegant minerality that carry the wine towards a long finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée is a wonderful companion to haute cuisine. It elevates noble fish such as turbot or line-caught sea bass served with a light cream sauce, as well as roasted shellfish such as lobster. It also pairs perfectly with delicate poultry with morels or pressed cooked cheeses such as a young Comté.
Serving and cellaring
Endowed with a beautiful structure, the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024 has remarkable cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve and gain in complexity. It can be enjoyed until around 2034.
The elegance of a great Puligny-Montrachet terroir revealed by Domaine Matrot
The estate
Officially founded in 1835, Domaine Matrot is a historic figure of Burgundy, located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. This vast vineyard of around 24 hectares is now run by Adèle and Elsa Matrot, who embody the sixth generation of the family. A pioneer in the region, the estate has applied organic viticulture principles since the year 2000. Renowned for its low-intervention approach, the brand is committed to producing authentic wines that reflect with great purity the richness of their original terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the "Les Chalumeaux" climat, a Premier Cru terroir located on the heights of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, towards the hamlet of Blagny. The Chardonnay vines, averaging 25 years of age, thrive on an east-facing slope. The soils here are made up of limestone marls and stand out for their very stony character, bringing a unique tension to the berries. The vineyard is cultivated using organic methods, including ploughing of the soils and the use of organic manure, in order to preserve the vitality of the land.
Winemaking and aging
To craft the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024, the harvest is carried out by hand after rigorous monitoring of the berries' ripeness. The whole bunches are gently pressed using a pneumatic press. After 24 hours of settling, the juices are racked and then transferred to barrel. Alcoholic fermentation, strictly temperature-controlled, takes place through the action of indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation carried out at 100%. Aging takes place on lees for 12 months in oak barrels of one to three years of age, before concluding with a further six months of refining in vat prior to bottling.
