An elegant version that shows the hallmarks of a cooler vintage, yet still offers generous flashy spice, bright pomegranate and hibiscus flavors. Reveals singed balsam and toasted anise elements that add depth through the firmly structured finish, which stretches out. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Counoise. Best from 2025 through 2032. 386 cases made, 75 cases imported.

    Nicolas Greinacher

Vinified from biodynamically farmed grapes, the full-bodied 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Saintes-Vierges is spicy and incisive. It displays pronounced blood orange, ripe raspberry and cranberry aromas with shades of licorice, iodine and dried herbs. Smooth tannins and refreshing acidity carry through to the complex finish.

Earthy red fruits, flowers, and white pepper are initially what you find in the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is elegant, refined, medium-bodied, supple, and creamy, with a peppery, kirsch, and black raspberry finish to wrap everything up neatly. The wine blends close to 90% Grenache, with 9% Mourvedre, and 1% Counoise. Drink from 2024-2035.

    La RVF

The wine is seductive on the nose, with a lovely finesse of style. The Grenache-on-sand profile dominates the discussion. The bouquet is precise and delicate, with rosewood, floral notes, and gentle spices.

    Description

A red wine from the Rhône Valley marked by refinement and complexity

    The estate

Founded in 1874, the Domaine Santa Duc located at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail brings to life great wines from the Rhône Valley. Following in his father Edmond's footsteps, Yves Gras has been steering the vineyard towards organic farming since 1985 and has contributed to the development of the reputation of Gigondas wines beyond borders. For six generations now, the Gras family has been expressing through its cuvées the nuances and identity of great terroirs of emblematic appellations such as Gigondas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or the Côtes du Rhône.

    The vineyard

This wine from the Rhône Valley comes from an exceptional terroir located to the east of the appellation on the eponymous place. The vineyard extends over 1.2 hectares and includes old vines of 70 years. These are managed using organic and biodynamic farming.

    Vinification and aging

After manual harvesting, the berries undergo a first sorting in the vineyard, then a second on the table. They are then partially destemmed. A gravity vatting precedes a fermentation of 20 to 30 days in stainless steel vats. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine is then aged for 18 months in foudres and terracotta jars. Bottling is carried out without fining or filtration.
