The elegance of a great white wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape by E. Guigal

    The estate
Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal, the E. Guigal House is a true institution of the Rhône Valley. Historically rooted in the north, in Ampuis, this illustrious brand extended its expertise southward with the acquisition of Château de Nalys in 2017. Today, the estate is led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, who respectively embody the second and third generations. Still 100% family-owned, the estate carries on a long-term vision, combining a prestigious négociant activity with the management of exceptional vineyards.

    The vineyard
The vines used for this great white from Châteauneuf-du-Pape are around 45 years old and produce low yields of 25 hl/ha. They flourish across four distinct terroirs of the appellation: Nalys (30%), composed of red sandstone from the Comtat and safres, Bois Sénéchal (30%) and La Crau (25%), both marked by ancient stony alluvium from the Rhône and rolled pebbles, along with Le Piedlong (15%).

    The vintage
In the southern sector, the climatic conditions of this year required particular vigilance in the vineyards in order to preserve the perfect balance between the ripeness of the berries and their aromatic freshness.

    Winemaking and aging
The making of Château de Nalys 2021 begins with rigorous hand-harvesting, followed by meticulous sorting of the grape bunches. After pressing and clarification of the must, vinification takes place 70% in wooden vessels and 30% in stainless steel tanks. The wine then benefits from 9 months of aging, 70% of which takes place in wood, in barrels and demi-muids, in order to refine its structure.

    Grape varieties
This wine is composed of 40% Roussanne, 40% Grenache Blanc, 18% Clairette and 2% Picardan.
