    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Château de Nalys 2022 Red by E. Guigal

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine displays a deep, dark ruby red hue, with an almost opaque core and a particularly bright rim.

    Nose
Intensely expressive, the nose opens on aromas of black fruits and fresh thyme, enhanced by delicate floral touches. With aeration, it reveals beautiful complexity through notes of liquorice, graphite and a deep minerality.

    Palate
The supple, fruity attack gives way to a medium to full-bodied palate of great balance. The elegant texture is supported by silky, perfectly integrated tannins. The finish is captivating in its remarkable length, carried by a fine persistence on spicy and mineral notes.

    Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meats or red meats in sauce, such as lamb with thyme, but also with game-based dishes, Mediterranean cuisine flavoured with aromatic herbs, or creamy aged cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve Château de Nalys 2022 at a temperature of around 15.5°C. While it can be enjoyed in its youth, this wine has ageing potential that allows it to rest in the cellar until around 2036.

The elegance and depth of a red wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    The estate

Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis, the family-run House E. Guigal is a true institution of the Rhône Valley. After elevating Côte-Rôtie to the pinnacle of world winemaking under the leadership of Marcel Guigal, the estate continues to grow. Today, Philippe Guigal, representing the third generation, runs the property alongside his wife Eve. The acquisition of Château de Nalys in 2017 marked a historic milestone for the House, fulfilling its dream of establishing a lasting presence in the southern part of the region to craft wines of excellence.

    The vineyard

Château de Nalys, located within the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, stretches over 75 hectares of vines at an altitude of around 130 m, between Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, an advantage for limiting alcohol levels in the face of climate change. The vineyard is divided into several plots with varied soils: sands and sandstone (Nalys), pebbles and clay (Bois Sénéchal), emblematic pebbles (La Crau), a clay plateau (Pied Long), and fine sands (Saintes Vierges). These terroirs produce wines ranging from fresh to more sun-drenched, solid and structured profiles, depending on the parcel.
The estate cultivates the 13 authorised grape varieties (up to 18 colour variants), a precious diversity that allows adjustments in blending and helps maintain the balance of the wines in the face of the climate.

    The vintage

Following a dry spring, the summer season was marked by moderate temperatures, avoiding extreme heat. Although the harvest was early, the climate remained temperate and balanced throughout, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness with fine concentration and excellent natural acidity.

    Vinification and ageing

The grapes for Château de Nalys 2022 are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous sorting to retain only the finest berries. Vinification is carried out traditionally in truncated wooden vats, with natural fermentation lasting four to five weeks. The wine then benefits from patient ageing of 18 months in wood (barrels, demi-muids, foudres) and 6 months in concrete vats.

    Grape varieties

This wine is made from a blend of Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%), and 10% Mourvèdre.
