    Wine Spectator

    James Molesworth

Dark and alluring, with hints of Turkish coffee, juniper and smoldering bay leaf mixed with dark plum, black cherry and blackberry reduction notes. This has muscle and drive and is sleek and focused, with a prominent bolt of iron running through the very long finish. A terrific wine. Best from 2024 through 2038. 500 cases made, 56 cases imported.

The second vintage of this new wine comes from 0.8 hectares of vines planted in the rocky Cote Bodin lieu-dit. On the nose, you initially find espresso, smoke, flowers, herbs, crushed stone, and sweet red fruits. On the palate, the wine is rich, fresh, round, and lush, with a sweetness to the ripe, supple red fruits and silky tannins. The wine was aged in 20% new French oak barrels. Drink from 2025–2040.

    Description

The finesse and texture of a red wine from the Rhône Valley

    The property

Among the emblematic figures of the Northern Rhône Valley, the Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin stands out as one of the most fervent ambassadors of Côte-Rôtie. Heir to a lineage of winemakers established for six generations, Jean-Michel Gerin founded his own estate in 1983, before reviving the family estate under his name. Thanks to his exemplary dedication and universally recognized talent, he has managed to elevate his estate to the rank of a global reference.

    The vineyard

Located in the heart of the prestigious Côte-Rôtie vineyard, in the charming village of Ampuis, this exceptional terroir is 30 km south of Lyon, marking the northern limit of the Rhône Valley. Benefiting from a dual climatic influence, Mediterranean and continental, it produces wines with remarkable balance, combining power, structured tannins, silkiness and elegance.

    Vinification and aging

This wine has undergone an aging process of 22 months, divided between 20% new barrels and 80% barrels that have been used for 1, 2 or 3 wines.

    Grape variety

    This Côte-Bodin 2019 cuvée from Jean-Michel Gérin is a 100% syrah.
