    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Terres Dorées "Côte du Py Javernières" 2023 Jean-Paul Brun

    Tasting

    Color
With beautiful intensity, the color reveals itself through deep garnet red hues.

    Nose
Complex and mineral, the bouquet exudes aromas of ripe black berries (blackberry, black cherry) and raspberry, mingled with floral notes of violet and orange blossom, along with touches of cherry marmalade and white pepper.

    Palate
With a medium body, the palate offers a structured attack with beautiful grip, supported by balanced acidity and silky tannins. The mid-palate reveals a precise, chalky minerality, leading to a clean and authentic finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled meats (beef, lamb, poultry) or slow-cooked dishes. It also pairs very well with game, aged cheeses, as well as mushroom-based recipes or Mediterranean flavors such as olives and caramelized onions.

    Service and storage

To release the natural residual carbon dioxide, decanting is recommended before serving. This Terres Dorées "Côte du Py Javernières" 2023 can be enjoyed young, but will continue to evolve favorably until approximately 2031.

    Other characteristics

This wine stands out for its moderate alcohol level, generally between 12% and 13%, reflecting the winemaker's commitment to avoiding chaptalization.

The mineral and structured expression of a volcanic terroir in Morgon

    The estate

Founded in 1979 by Jean-Paul Brun, Domaine des Terres Dorées is located in Charnay, in the southern Beaujolais, France. Having grown from four to more than sixty hectares, this estate is recognized for its pioneering approach to minimal-intervention winemaking. Nicknamed the "godfather of Beaujolais," Jean-Paul Brun, still the current owner though seeking a successor for his retirement, stands out for his rejection of carbonic maceration in favor of traditional Burgundian methods, thereby revealing the authenticity of his terroirs.

    The vineyard

The cuvée comes from the Javernières lieu-dit, a small plot located at the foot of the famous Côte du Py hill, within the Morgon appellation. Facing southeast, the vines, aged thirty to more than forty years, thrive on a complex soil composed of clay, iron oxide, schist, and blue volcanic rock (diorite). The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable practices, without herbicides, with work that respects the ecosystem.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Terres Dorées "Côte du Py Javernières" 2023 are hand-harvested at full ripeness, then meticulously sorted and fully destemmed. Fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts, without any added sugar. A long maceration of three to five weeks is carried out with regular punching down of the cap. Finally, the wine is aged in concrete tanks for six to eight months to preserve the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.

    Grape variety

Gamay (100%). An emblematic grape variety of the region, Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc draws from these granitic soils all its complexity, offering wines that are fruity, spicy, and endowed with great aging potential.
