Characteristics and tasting notes of the Terres Dorées "Les Thorins" 2022 Jean-Paul Brun
Tasting
Colour
This red wine from France reveals a beautiful garnet hue, ranging from medium to deep.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out for its great complexity, exuding scents of dried flowers and blood orange, subtly enhanced by notes of dried herbs.
Palate
The attack reveals a refined structure supported by exceptionally fine tannins. The palate offers a lovely mineral and saline freshness, extending into a long finish where orange peel flavours mingle with floral touches.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled dishes, a fine roasted beef joint or meats in sauce. It will also beautifully complement creamy cheeses such as Saint-Marcellin.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 12 and 15°C. The Terres Dorées "Les Thorins" 2022 can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2032.
The elegance and complexity of a great Moulin-à-Vent wine
The estate
Founded in 1977 as an independent winery in the Beaujolais, Domaine des Terres Dorées has established itself as an essential reference under the guidance of Jean-Paul Brun. A pioneer of environmentally respectful viticulture and Burgundian-inspired winemaking, he elevated the estate to the highest ranks. The vineyard now spans 57 hectares, spread between the Pierres Dorées region and its prestigious crus. Since 2024, Domaines Roger Zannier have been the current owners of the estate, while retaining the expertise of the historic founder as a consultant to preserve this unique know-how.
The vineyard
Hailing from the renowned Moulin-à-Vent appellation, the "Les Thorins" plot benefits from an ideal south-facing exposure. The vines, averaging 55 years of age, are planted at high density on distinctive soils composed of clay and granitic elements. This low-altitude terroir enjoys a mild microclimate, promoting optimal ripening of the berries.
The vintage
The year was marked by a challenging spring and early summer, quickly offset by an exceptionally warm and sunny summer season. These highly favourable weather conditions allowed for perfect phenolic maturity to be reached while preserving a lovely acid balance at harvest time.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Terres Dorées "Les Thorins" 2022 are harvested and sorted by hand. The harvest is 80% destemmed, retaining a small proportion of whole bunches. Fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, is accompanied by a 14-day maceration under controlled temperatures with regular pump-overs. Aging then takes place over a period of 6 to 12 months, split between concrete vats (70%) and third-fill oak barrels (30%).
