    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves" Famille Gagey 2020 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The robe reveals a deep, brilliant ruby hue.

    Nose
Expressive and rich, the nose releases aromas of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, complemented by notes of ripe black fruits. Subtle spicy and floral touches evoking peony or violet, along with hints of undergrowth and liquorice, intertwine with a delicate oaky character.

    Palate
The attack is both supple and dense, opening onto a mid-palate structured by fine, well-defined tannins. Balance is maintained by a lovely, zesty freshness, leading to a lingering finish marked by fruity and spicy echoes.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs beautifully with delicate meats such as roast poultry, braised veal or pork tenderloin. It also accompanies mushroom-based dishes very well, as well as refined reinterpretations of Burgundian specialities and soft-rind cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.

    Serving and cellaring

Approachable in its youth, this Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves" Famille Gagey 2020 also boasts a solid structure that will allow it to evolve favourably in the cellar for several years.

The elegance and structure of a Premier Cru from Beaune

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is an essential institution based in Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy. Built on a unique model combining négociant house and estate owner, it is historically linked to the Kopf and Gagey families. Now led by Thomas Seiter, who succeeded Pierre-Henry Gagey, the estate stands out for its commitment to preserving the identity of each terroir. Strongly engaged in an environmental approach, the house shines internationally while maintaining a classic style that respects the Burgundian climats.

    The vineyard

The Climat Les Grèves is one of the most renowned terroirs of the commune of Beaune. Situated mid-slope, the vines enjoy an ideal easterly and south-easterly exposure, ensuring optimal morning sunshine and good ventilation. The soils, typically "grévés", are made up of small gravel, stones and sand mixed with clay and limestone. This soil composition provides excellent drainage and encourages concentration in the grapes, giving rise to wines that combine power and elegance.

    The vintage

The 2020 vintage is recognised in Burgundy as a warm and early one. These sun-drenched climatic conditions favoured rapid ripening of the grapes, producing berries of great richness and remarkable concentration, while preserving a beautiful freshness thanks to rigorous management of yields and harvest dates.

    Winemaking and aging

To craft this Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves" Famille Gagey 2020, the bunches are first destemmed. Vinification is carried out in a classic style with measured macerations to extract colour and aromas without excess. Fermentations take place in vats with punch-downs and pump-overs adapted to the wine. Finally, the wine is aged in oak barrels from the house's own cooperage, over a period long enough to refine the tannic structure without masking the vibrancy of the fruit.
