    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "Héritiers Louis Jadot" 2023

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a pale gold hue, elevated by delicate green highlights, a colour characteristic of this white wine's youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with floral and fruity notes, enhanced by touches of pepper and cinnamon. A mineral, stony backbone lends elegant support to the whole.

    Palate
Full-bodied and concentrated, the palate offers a creamy texture perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. The mid-palate reveals a brilliant minerality that extends into a long, complex finish, marked by flavours of peach stone, cereal, pine nut and woody spice.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, its richness perfectly balanced by the cru's minerality. It also elevates noble shellfish such as lobster or crab, as well as poultry and veal served with a cream sauce. Fish in beurre blanc or blue-veined cheeses also make excellent pairings.

    Service and Storage

Although the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "Héritiers Louis Jadot" 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth, it will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar. It is recommended to keep it for optimal tasting from 2027, and it can be enjoyed until around 2040.

The Pure and Concentrated Expression of a Great White Burgundy

    The Estate

Officially founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in Beaune, the Louis Jadot house is a true institution in Burgundy, France. At the helm of a vast vineyard of nearly 280 hectares, the estate has belonged to the American Kopf family since 1985. Now led by Thomas Seiter, President, and Thibault Gagey, Managing Director, the house upholds a philosophy centred on the authentic expression of terroir and minimal-intervention winemaking. Renowned worldwide, it also stands out for its growing environmental commitment.

    The Vineyard

The Corton-Charlemagne vineyard rises up the Corton hill, at an altitude of between 280 and 330 metres. The house's vines, located in the Les Pougets climat, benefit from a prized south-facing exposure. They thrive on steep slopes with soils composed of chalky marl and limestone, with a very thin layer of topsoil forcing the roots to dig deep into the bedrock. The forest overlooking the hill provides a cooling influence essential to the balance of the grapes.

    The Vintage

2023 was marked by a relatively calm growing season, followed by a heat peak at the end of August. The white grape harvest took place early, under warm temperatures, yielding generous quantities. The harvested berries showed optimal ripeness, fine concentration of natural sugars and excellent acidity retention.

    Winemaking and Aging

True to the estate's minimalist philosophy, the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "Héritiers Louis Jadot" 2023 receives meticulous attention to preserve its freshness. Vinification and aging take place in oak barrels, about a third of which are new, for a period of eighteen months. The use of larger vessels alongside traditional barrels allows the woody notes to be subtly integrated while letting the terroir's minerality shine through.
