    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Colour
A deep ruby hue leaning towards garnet unfolds in the glass, enhanced by violet reflections in its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet harmoniously combines notes of ripe red and black fruits with floral and spicy touches. Barrel ageing brings subtle nuances of vanilla, cocoa and toasted bread that blend delicately with aromas of undergrowth.

    Palate
Full and structured, the palate reveals tannins that are both firm and velvety. A fine acidity balances the generosity of the fruit, drawing the wine towards a lingering and refined finish, marked by the pure expression of its terroir.

    Food and wine pairings

This red Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with characterful meats, such as a roasted piece of aged beef, or feathered game such as pigeon or pheasant. It will also enhance traditional slow-cooked dishes or a platter of matured soft or pressed cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

Endowed with remarkable ageing potential, this Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022 can be kept in the cellar for approximately 5 to 30 years, depending on storage conditions, to reveal its full aromatic complexity.

The elegance and structure of a Burgundy Grand Cru

    The estate

Founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy, whose family winegrowing roots date back to 1826. Owned by the American group Kobrand since 1985, it has managed to preserve its identity thanks to the continued leadership of the Gagey family. Now chaired by Thomas Seiter, this emblematic house shines internationally while remaining deeply committed to the authentic expression of each terroir. Engaged in a sustainable viticulture approach, it stands out for its wide range of appellations and the mastery of its own cooperage.

    The vineyard

Located on the famous hill of Corton, the "Clos du Roi" plot benefits from an ideal due-east exposure on the red slope. Planted in 1970, these vines of over fifty years old thrive on deep soils rich in clay and iron oxides. Here, the estate practises environmentally friendly viticulture, currently transitioning to organic farming, favouring soil work and the preservation of biodiversity to express the full quintessence of this terroir.

    The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by hot and dry weather. Thanks to the water reserves of the deep soils, the vines were able to withstand the summer drought. These conditions favoured a rapid and optimal ripening of the berries, yielding grapes filled with sunshine while retaining a fine natural freshness.

    Vinification and ageing

The grapes of the Corton Grand Cru "Clos du Roi" 2022 are hand-harvested in small crates, then rigorously sorted and destemmed. Maceration takes place in open vats over three to four weeks, punctuated by two daily punch-downs. The wine is then aged for around eighteen months in oak barrels from the house's own cooperage, of which nearly one third are new, allowing a delicate integration of the oak.
