    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Echezeaux Grand Cru "Famille Gagey" 2024 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine displays a deep ruby hue, enhanced by purple and magenta highlights.

    Nose
Complex and expressive, the nose reveals aromas of ripe black and red fruits such as black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry. With aeration, subtle spicy notes of white pepper and cinnamon emerge, alongside minty floral and mineral touches and a delicate hint of vanilla.

    Palate
The attack is lively and gives way to a generous texture supported by fine, elegant and perfectly integrated tannins. The balance is remarkable between the roundness of the fruit and a lovely tangy freshness. The finish, of exceptional length, extends over a resolutely mineral signature.

    Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Echezeaux Grand Cru "Famille Gagey" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. Decanting is advised in its youth to soften the tannins. Built to age, this wine can rest in the cellar and will evolve favourably until around 2054.

    Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats. In its youth, it will elevate a roast pigeon with figs or a beef fillet with morels. After a few years of ageing, it will ideally accompany a wild boar stew, venison with grand veneur sauce or washed-rind raw-milk cheeses.

An emblematic Échezeaux Grand Cru by Louis Jadot

    The estate
Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. Owned by the Kopf family since 1985, the estate is today led by Thomas Seiter, president since 2023, alongside Thibault Gagey. At the helm of a vast vineyard of more than two hundred and twenty hectares spread across several wine-growing regions, the house stands out with a unique model: it vinifies the vast majority of its négoce wines itself. A staunch defender of terroir, the estate obtained organic certification in 2024 for a large part of its vines.

    The vineyard
The Échezeaux terroir is located in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This historic vineyard, shaped by Cistercian monks from the twelfth century onwards, thrives on hillsides whose altitude ranges between 230 and 300 metres. The vines benefit from a gentle slope and a complex geological mosaic, blending Bajocian marls, red silts and gravel. This diversity of soils, combined with the influence of the cool air currents from the Combe d'Orveau, gives the grapes a singular ripening process and a unique identity.

    The vintage
Although the 2024 vintage is still ageing, the recent climatic conditions in Burgundy, marked by global warming, are conducive to optimal ripening of the berries. These conditions yield grapes of great aromatic richness while preserving the tension and natural acidity essential to the balance of the region's great wines.

    Winemaking and ageing
The production of the Echezeaux Grand Cru "Famille Gagey" 2024 Louis Jadot relies on a philosophy of minimal intervention. After the harvest, the berries undergo a maceration of three to four weeks in open vats. The wine is then aged for around eighteen months in oak barrels made by the house's own cooperage, Cadus. In order to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the authentic expression of the terroir, the proportion of new barrels is deliberately limited to about one third.

    Grape variety
    Pinot Noir (100%).
