    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Louis Jadot's Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques" 2023

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful red hue.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet displays remarkable clarity, blending scents of small red and black fruits such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. These are joined by subtle spicy notes and animal nuances evoking soft leather or game, underpinned by a fine minerality.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its power and concentration. The material is dense and deep, carried by a firm yet perfectly balanced tannic structure. The whole extends into a finish of remarkable length.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with red meats such as roast beef or rack of lamb, as well as with roast duck or feathered game. It will also enhance traditional dishes in sauce such as beef bourguignon or coq au vin, and will ideally accompany matured cheeses such as Époisses, Langres or Comté.

    Serving and cellaring

Boasting a structure built to age, this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques" 2023 offers exceptional cellaring potential that can extend over several decades.

The power and complexity of a great Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru by Louis Jadot

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a leading institution of Burgundy, historically based in the heart of Beaune. This estate, built on a hybrid model combining négociant activities and its own vineyards, now shines internationally while preserving its local roots. Acquired in 1985 by the Kopf family, the property is currently led by Pierre-Henry Gagey. Renowned for its commitment to sustainable viticulture and its absolute respect for terroirs, the House produces wines that faithfully and rigorously convey all the complexity of the Burgundian climats.

    The vineyard

This wine comes from the Premier Cru climat of Lavaux Saint-Jacques, located in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. The vines flourish on a slope well exposed to the east and south-east, benefiting from the refreshing influence and good ventilation of the Combe de Lavaux. The terroir is made up of brown limestone soils and marls, rich in small stones, providing excellent drainage and encouraging deep rooting. The House applies the principles of sustainable viticulture here, limiting yields to ensure optimal concentration in the berries.

    Winemaking and ageing

The making of the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques" 2023 follows the purest Burgundian tradition. After careful harvesting and mostly destemming, fermentation takes place in vats with long macerations, accompanied by measured punch-downs and pump-overs for a gentle extraction. The wine then enjoys an extended ageing of eighteen to twenty months in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood, allowing the tannins to be refined without masking the original expression of the terroir.
