    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Marsannay Village "Clos du Roy" Famille Gagey 2023

    Tasting

    Appearance
The robe reveals a deep, intense red hue, adorned with dark reflections in its youth.

    Nose
Open and complex, the aromatic bouquet exhales scents of ripe black fruits such as wild blackberry, blackcurrant and dried plum, mingled with notes of red fruits like cherry and raspberry. The whole is enhanced by delicate floral touches, sweet spices and a fine oakiness.

    Palate
Ample and structured, the palate seduces with its dense material and its firm yet remarkably supple tannins. Carried by a beautiful freshness, the tasting extends at length over a persistent finish with spicy and fruity accents.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine from France pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats, dishes in mushroom sauce or light game. With time, it will enhance marinated meats, stews as well as a fine selection of Burgundian soft or pressed cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

This Marsannay Village "Clos du Roy" Famille Gagey 2023 can be enjoyed from its youth for its fruity radiance, but its solid structure also allows it to evolve very favourably in the cellar for approximately eight to twelve years.

The richness and complexity of a Marsannay wine

    The estate

Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is an emblematic figure of Burgundy. Both a négociant house and the owner of a vast estate, it is today owned by the Gagey and Kopf families, with Thomas Seiter as president. Recognised around the world for its label adorned with the head of Bacchus, the property stands out through its faithfulness to the expression of terroirs and its deep commitment to sustainable, environmentally respectful viticulture.

    The vineyard

Located in the commune of Chenôve, the historic Climat Clos du Roy is one of the noblest terroirs of the Marsannay appellation. Facing east-south, the vines flourish on brown, dry soils combining limestone, marl and clay, with a high proportion of stones and gravel providing excellent natural drainage. The estate practises sustainable viticulture there, promoting biodiversity, plant cover and respect for the soils.

    Winemaking and aging

After an exclusively manual harvest into small crates and a meticulous sorting, the grapes of this Marsannay Village "Clos du Roy" Famille Gagey 2023 are vinified in tanks for three to four weeks. The process includes punching down and pumping over for optimal extraction of colour and aromas. The wine then benefits from an extended aging of approximately eighteen months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new wood, crafted by the House's own cooperage.
