    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Marsannay Village Domaine Louis Jadot 2023

    Tasting

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of dark fruits, reminiscent of blackberry and blackcurrant. Subtle spicy touches intertwine with delicate toasted and vanilla nuances, the result of a perfectly mastered oak ageing.

    Palate
On the palate, this red wine offers a lovely lushness supported by a well-defined tannic structure that is free of any harshness. The tannins, particularly ripe and supple, give the whole a profile that is both structured and approachable from its youth.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine will pair ideally with marinated dishes, whose flavours will echo its fruity and spicy profile.

    The estate

Founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. At the helm of a vineyard spanning more than two hundred hectares, it stands out for its hybrid model, combining the activities of an estate and a négociant house. Now chaired by Thomas Seiter, the property is backed by the Kopf family as shareholders, while the Gagey family carries on the technical expertise. Renowned worldwide, the house showcases the identity of each terroir through sustainable viticulture and minimally interventionist winemaking, delivering wines of remarkable stylistic consistency.

    The vineyard

Located at the gates of Dijon, the terroir of Marsannay is the northernmost village appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The vines benefit from a privileged east and south-east exposure, favouring optimal capture of the morning light. They thrive on brown, dry soils composed of a blend of clay, marl and limestone. The presence of gravel and pebbles ensures excellent natural drainage. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here, favouring mechanical soil work and rigorous yield management.

    The vintage

The 2023 vintage falls in line with those marked by warmer climatic conditions. These weather variations required particular attention in the vineyard, notably through precise management of the leaf canopy and yields, in order to preserve the balance and freshness of the berries in the face of heat and drought episodes.

    Winemaking and ageing

The crafting of this Marsannay Village Dom. Louis Jadot 2023 relies on meticulous plot-by-plot winemaking. Macerations are conducted at controlled temperatures, accompanied by punch-downs and pump-overs tailored to extract colour and aromas without disturbing the material or over-extracting. Ageing then takes place in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood, allowing the wine's structure to be refined while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
