Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Musigny Grand cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2024
Tasting
Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals great aromatic complexity, weaving together scents of cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry. Subtle floral notes of rose petals, enhanced by touches of blood orange and gentle spices, round out this olfactory ensemble.
Palate
Ample and fleshy, the palate charms with its remarkable density and silky texture. The tannins, wonderfully supple, structure the mouth with elegance. The finish, vivid and succulent, lingers at length, revealing new layers of flavour.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine will pair marvellously with fine roasted poultry, such as guinea fowl or young pheasant with aromatic herbs. It will also enhance a lacquered duck, roast lamb or mushroom-based dishes. As for cheeses, it will be an ideal companion to a Brie de Meaux, a Coulommiers or a Cîteaux.
The elegance and rarity of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Domaine Louis Jadot stands as a true institution in Burgundy. Owned by the American Kopf family since 1985, the house is today led by Thomas Seiter, alongside Thibault Gagey as managing director. The estate oversees a vast vineyard of around 270 hectares spread across the region's finest appellations. A committed advocate of sustainable viticulture and minimally interventionist winemaking, the domaine reached a major milestone by obtaining organic certification for its own vines in 2024.
The vineyard
This wine hails from the prestigious Musigny, a Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits located in the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Here, the domaine cultivates a tiny plot of 0.1665 hectare. Rising between 260 and 300 metres in altitude, this singular terroir stands out for its pronounced slope resting on a limestone bedrock dating from the Jurassic period. The soils, shallow in depth, are particularly rich in red clay in their upper layer, offering ideal conditions for the vines to flourish.
The vintage
The 2024 season stands as one of the most demanding in Burgundy's recent history, marked by record rainfall and low sunshine. The growing cycle was put to the test as early as spring by episodes of frost and hail, followed by intense cryptogamic pressure. However, a saving end to the season from August onwards, characterised by warm days, cool nights and dry weather, allowed the surviving berries to reach optimal ripeness before harvests began in mid-September.
Winemaking and ageing
True to its philosophy of respect for the terroir, the domaine favours a minimalist approach for this Musigny Grand cru 2024. Fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, followed by long macerations under rigorous temperature control. Ageing is carried out with a moderate use of new oak, sourced from the house's own cooperage, in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the identity of the plot.
Grape variety
100% pinot noir.
