Cask sample. Quite a rich nose. Already eerily drinkable! There is no shortage of very fine tannin on the end but lots of fine fruit on the way there. Very clean even if not that concentrated. (JR)

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Pommard 1er Cru "Clos de la Commaraine" 2017 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a deep ruby hue, adorned with subtle purple highlights in its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens on a beautiful expression of black fruits, dominated by blueberry and blackcurrant, complemented by nuances of red fruits, spices and delicate woody touches.

    Palate
Rich and endowed with a classic intensity, this wine offers a concentrated substance supported by supple tannins. The balance is remarkable, combining the structure typical of its appellation with a lovely roundness, extending into a long, lingering finish.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with marinated meats, grilled cuts of beef or a veal roast. It will also enhance game dishes in sauce, as well as a fine platter of aged cheeses such as Comté, Cantal or Beaufort.

    Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate the Pommard 1er Cru "Clos de la Commaraine" 2017, it is advisable to serve it at a temperature of around 16 °C, decanting it for one hour in its youth. This wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.

The elegance and depth of a great red wine from Pommard

    The estate

Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy, France. While the family's winemaking history began as early as 1826 with the acquisition of the first vines, it was the merchant business that propelled the brand onto the international stage. Now owned by the Kopf family through the Kobrand company, the estate is operationally run by the Gagey family. Boasting a vast vineyard cultivated under sustainable farming practices, Louis Jadot stands out for its ability to faithfully translate the mosaic of Burgundian terroirs through cuvées that blend tradition and modernity.

    The vineyard

The Climat of Clos de la Commaraine is a monopoly of the House, located close to the village of Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune. Stretching over just over four hectares, this terroir enjoys an ideal eastern exposure. The vines flourish on deep clay-limestone soils, particularly well-drained and rich in stones, offering perfect conditions to regulate heat and promote optimal ripening of the grapes.

    The vintage

The 2017 year is renowned in the region for having offered mild weather conditions, allowing the berries to reach ideal maturity. This favourable growing cycle gave rise to a healthy harvest, recognised for its great natural balance.

    Winemaking and aging

To produce this Pommard 1er Cru "Clos de la Commaraine" 2017, the bunches are entirely destemmed before undergoing fermentation in vats that can last up to a month, encouraging gentle extraction. The wine is then transferred into oak barrels for an aging period of 15 to 18 months, softening the tannic structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
