Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Combettes" Domaine Louis Jadot 2023
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale golden yellow hue, adorned with subtle greenish reflections in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of citrus, white flowers and yellow-fleshed fruits. The maturation reveals itself through delicate touches of fresh butter, brioche and hazelnut.
Palate
The attack is broad and concentrated, revealing a generous substance and an enveloping texture. The balance favours a beautiful roundness rather than a bright acidity, extending into a long finish marked by aromas of ripe fruits and subtle toasted nuances.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate dishes such as pan-seared scallops, shellfish like lobster served with a beurre blanc sauce, or white meats and poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, with possible decanting in its youth. This cru can be enjoyed from today, and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.
The elegance and richness of a great white Burgundy wine
The estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. With a dual identity as both a négociant and a wine estate, it shines throughout the world thanks to its terroir-respecting approach. Today, the property belongs to the Kopf family, while operational management is entrusted to the Gagey family and president Thomas Seiter. Committed to a transition towards organic practices, the house also stands out for owning its own cooperage, forging a unique stylistic signature.
The vineyard
The premier cru climat "Les Combettes" is located within the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, bordering the Meursault vineyard. East-facing, the vines thrive on shallow clay-limestone soils rich in stones. This well-drained terroir, which warms up quickly and retains little acidity, is renowned for producing white wines of great richness and beautiful amplitude.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage takes place against a backdrop of climate change in Burgundy, marked by a hotter summer favouring rapid ripening. Faced with these conditions, harvest dates and canopy management were meticulously adapted to preserve the freshness of the berries while mastering their generous natural richness.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes intended for Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Combettes" Dom. Louis Jadot 2023 are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the fruit, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place traditionally in oak barrels crafted by the house's own cooperage, of which about one third are new. The wine then benefits from extended aging on fine lees for 15 to 18 months, promoting the development of its rich texture and complexity.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
