Characteristics and tasting tips for Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Folatières" 2023 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue with green tints, reflecting a lovely freshness that will evolve towards golden nuances over time. Clear and bright, it illustrates a precise winemaking style.

    Nose
Complex and distinctive, the nose opens with aromas of white flowers such as hawthorn and acacia, mingled with notes of stone fruit like white peach and nectarine, along with citrus zest. Ageing on the lees brings subtle touches of fresh butter, brioche and hazelnut, all underscored by a minerality reminiscent of flint.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a remarkable balance between rich texture and great elegance. Well-integrated acidity brings tension, while the mineral backbone carries the tasting through to a long, persistent finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This great white wine pairs beautifully with roasted or pan-seared noble fish, such as turbot or sea bass, served with a light butter and lemon sauce. It also enhances creamy shellfish dishes, white meats such as poultry in a mushroom sauce, as well as mature cheeses like brie or Comté.

    Serving and storage

Boasting excellent ageing potential, the Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Folatières" Dom. Louis Jadot 2023 can be cellared to develop more complex aromas. It is recommended to enjoy it between approximately 2026 and 2045.

    The estate

Founded in 1859 in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. Both a producer-négociant and a wine estate, it is dedicated to revealing the authentic expression of each terroir through a classic, well-balanced style. Now owned by the Kopf family via Kobrand Corporation and chaired by Pierre-Henry Gagey, the house shines on the international stage while preserving its historical roots. Louis Jadot thus embodies Burgundian excellence, combining rigorous quality standards with a deep understanding of the region's climats.

    The vineyard

This wine comes from the prestigious Les Folatières climat, classified as Premier Cru within the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, in the Côte de Beaune. The vines, directly farmed by the estate, benefit from an ideal east and southeast exposure on a moderate slope that promotes excellent drainage. The soils, composed of calcareous marl and small stones, give the grapes a slow ripening process and a pronounced mineral signature, typical of this exceptional terroir.

    Winemaking and ageing

The production of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Folatières" Dom. Louis Jadot 2023 follows a traditional approach aimed at respecting the identity of the climat. Winemaking and ageing take place in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood of around 30%, so as not to mask the fruit. Ageing on the lees for 12 to 18 months enriches the wine's texture, while malolactic fermentation and careful bottling ensure its structure and longevity.
