    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Referts" Domaine Louis Jadot 2023

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a luminous straw-yellow to pale-gold hue, enhanced by bright green highlights in its youth.

    Nose
The nose opens with an expressive bouquet of white fruits such as pear and apple, mingled with white floral notes. Delicate touches of almond, hazelnut and fresh butter enrich this aromatic palette, underpinned by a fine minerality.

    Palate
The attack is broad and generous, revealing a silky, dynamic texture. Perfectly balanced between richness and tension, the palate stretches towards a long, persistent finish marked by notes of almond and white fruits.

    Food and wine pairings

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with fine fish in butter sauce, such as turbot or sole. It also elevates delicate seafood such as scallops, as well as white meats served with cream and mushroom sauces. A hard cheese, such as a young Comté, will also make an excellent choice.

    Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate the complexity of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Referts" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14 °C. This wine has excellent ageing potential and may be enjoyed until around 2038.

The elegance and richness of a great white Burgundy wine

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a leading institution in Burgundy, historically based in Beaune. Combining extensive négociant activity with a prestigious estate of its own, it stands out for its integrated cooperage and its strong environmental commitment. Owned by the Kopf family since 1985, the estate is today chaired by Thomas Seiter. Under his leadership, and with the technical expertise of Frédéric Barnier, the estate continues to shine internationally while preserving the authentic expression of its terroirs through a philosophy of minimal intervention.

    The vineyard

The Climat "Les Referts" is a prestigious premier cru of Puligny-Montrachet, ideally located on the edge of Meursault. The vines enjoy a due-east exposure, offering optimal morning sunlight. They grow on clay-limestone soils rich in stones, particularly well-drained and conducive to the expression of the grape variety. The estate favours an environmentally respectful approach, certified High Environmental Value level 3, with practices geared towards organic farming. Harvesting is carried out by hand into small crates to preserve the quality of the berries.

    Winemaking and ageing

After gentle pressing, vinification takes place in oak barrels from the House's own cooperage, of which approximately one third are new. A partial malolactic fermentation is carried out to preserve a fine tension. The wine then benefits from careful ageing on fine lees for around fifteen months, giving it its complexity and silky texture before bottling.

    Grape variety

    100% Chardonnay.
