Characteristics and tasting notes for the Santenay Village "Clos des Gatsulards" Famille Gagey 2024 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance

Displaying a beautiful red hue, this wine catches the light with elegance.

    Nose

The bouquet exhales aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrant and plum, delicately underscored by subtle notes of cocoa and toasted oak.

    Palate

Medium to full-bodied, the palate seduces with its roundness and supple fruit. The velvety tannins integrate perfectly with the woody notes, leading to a persistent and mineral finish.

    Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, baked salmon or grilled red meats such as lamb chops. It will also enhance traditional slow-cooked dishes such as beef bourguignon, osso buco, as well as feathered game.

    Serving and cellaring

This Santenay Village "Clos des Gatsulards" Famille Gagey 2024 reveals excellent cellaring potential and can be enjoyed until around 2034.

The authentic expression of a Santenay wine

    The estate

Officially founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution located in the heart of Beaune, in Burgundy. The family history in the region, however, dates back to 1794. Now chaired by Thomas Seiter, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of approximately 213 hectares, a large part of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru. Renowned for its respect for terroirs, the house reached a milestone by obtaining organic certification for its vineyards in 2024, thereby perpetuating its commitment to excellence.

    The vineyard

The Clos des Gatsulards vineyard is located at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, within the Santenay appellation. This plot benefits from a unique amphitheatre-shaped configuration with a south-eastern exposure, ensuring optimal sunlight. The vines flourish on a natural slope that promotes excellent drainage, anchored in deep clay soils characteristic of this southern part of the region.

    The vintage

The 2024 growing year offered climatic conditions conducive to optimal ripening of the grapes. The prolonged growing season, particularly favoured by the south-eastern exposure of the plots, made it possible to reach a remarkable level of phenolic maturity, ensuring a beautiful fruit concentration while preserving a lovely balance.

    Winemaking and aging

The creation of the Santenay Village "Clos des Gatsulards" Famille Gagey 2024 begins with fermentation in temperature-controlled vats lasting up to four weeks, in order to gently extract colour, aromas and tannins. The wine then benefits from meticulous aging of around twelve months in French oak barrels, allowing slow oxidation and perfect integration of the woody notes.

    Grape variety

    Pinot Noir (100%).
