Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations for Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Petits Monts" 2020 by Louis Latour

    Tasting

    Color
The color displays a dark, deep hue, enhanced by garnet highlights that testify to the concentration of the vintage.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals a complex aromatic palette blending black fruits with notes of blackberry and cassis. Nuances of licorice and mocha bring a spicy dimension, while roasted touches complete the olfactory ensemble harmoniously.

    Palate
The attack is fresh and ample, unveiling flavors of black currant accompanied by toasted notes. The structure reveals a beautiful breadth with a remarkably long finish that confirms the potential of this 1er cru.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This Vosne-Romanée 1er cru pairs perfectly with bœuf mironton, rabbit with chanterelles, or furred game accompanied by lingonberries. It also elevates a Soumaintrain cheese at the end of the meal.

    Serving and Cellaring

To fully reveal its aromas, this Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Petits Monts" 2020 is ideally served at a temperature between 15 and 17 °C. Its cellaring potential extends for about 10 to 12 years, allowing the wine to express all its complexity over time.

A Vosne-Romanée 1er cru on the Iron-Rich Soils of the Côte de Nuits

    The Estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, Louis Latour remains a family estate now run by the eleventh generation. Established in Burgundy across 50 hectares, it is the largest Grands Crus estate in the Côte d'Or, owning exceptional plots in both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer of modern winemaking techniques since the 19th century, the house combines innovation and tradition, preserving its historic cellars while maintaining its family independence.

    The Vineyard

The "Les Petits Monts" plot is located on the upper part of the slope of Vosne-Romanée, benefiting from iron- and clay-rich soils particularly favorable to Pinot Noir. The vines, with an average age of 30 years, thrive on this northern Nuits-Saint-Georges terroir where geological conditions allow the optimal expression of the Burgundian grape variety. Hand harvesting and controlled yields of 38 hl/ha ensure exceptional grape quality.

    Winemaking and Aging

Winemaking takes place in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging occurs over 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, with 40 % new barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage. This respectful approach preserves the fruity expression while bringing the structure necessary for this great age-worthy wine.

    Grape Variety

100 % Pinot Noir, the emblematic Burgundy grape variety that finds a particularly refined and complex expression in the Vosne-Romanée terroirs.
