    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Passage" 2023 from Domaine Méo-Camuzet

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep garnet hue, enhanced by delicate violet nuances.

    Nose
Powerful and complex, the nose exudes seductive aromas of ripe red and black fruits, dominated by cherry and raspberry. Subtle notes of truffle and sweet spices intertwine, revealing perfectly integrated oak.

    Palate
The attack is generous, soft and enveloping. The mid-palate reveals itself as voluptuous and silky, supported by a tannic structure that is both delicate and assertive. The long, radiant finish stretches over a fine minerality, elegant tannins and spicy touches enhanced by a pleasant bitterness.

    Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with delicate poultry such as roasted squab pigeon served with beets and truffles, or with more robust meats such as venison or wild boar. It also enhances fine charcuterie platters as well as mature cheeses, such as Époisses, Reblochon or an aged Comté.

    Service and storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Passage" 2023 from Domaine Méo-Camuzet at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Decanting beforehand can be beneficial to let the wine breathe. Approachable in its youth, it also boasts excellent aging potential and can be kept until around 2040.

    Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 14%. The "Le Passage" cuvée comes from a specific sub-plot, vinified separately only in vintages offering sufficient yields to allow it.

The elegance and complexity of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Méo-Camuzet

    The estate

Located in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Méo-Camuzet officially adopted this name in 1981, although its winemaking heritage dates back to the early twentieth century. Now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate spans approximately 18 hectares. The domaine stands out for its pursuit of excellence, favoring quality over quantity. True to a low-intervention philosophy that respects the terroir, Méo-Camuzet produces wines of great finesse, renowned worldwide for their elegance and authentic expression.

    The vineyard

The cuvée comes from a plot of about three hectares located in the upper part of the Clos Vougeot appellation, benefiting from an ideal southeast exposure. The vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1920, take root deeply in shallow soils composed of limestone, chalk and gravel. The domaine applies environmentally friendly methods, without herbicides, favoring traditional plowing and rigorous yield control through green harvesting.

    The vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild winter and a wet spring, favoring a beautiful flowering. The summer season was marked by an alternation of heat waves, cooler spells and storms. From June onward, exceptional sunshine and dry conditions accelerated the growing cycle. The harvest, which began about ten days early at the end of August, made it possible to pick grapes with perfect homogeneity and sanitary condition.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes are fully destemmed before undergoing a cold maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, under strict temperature control, with measured pump-overs followed by punch-downs. Intervention is kept to a minimum, with no chaptalization or acidification. This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Passage" 2023 from Domaine Méo-Camuzet is then aged for 17 months in new oak barrels from the Tronçais forest. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
