Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting notes
Colour
Of a beautiful red hue with velvety purple tints, this wine evolves towards subtle magenta nuances.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, releasing scents of red and black fruits such as cherry and blackcurrant. The whole is delicately underscored by notes of liquorice and smoke, along with herbaceous touches reminiscent of mint and eucalyptus.
Palate
Fresh and concentrated, the attack offers a refined tannic presence that adds depth. The minerality of the terroir lends this cru a fine tension, perfectly balancing the ripeness of the fruit with a serious, elegant structure.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs ideally with roast poultry and feathered game such as duck, pheasant or quail. It is also wonderful alongside full-flavoured meats such as fillet of beef with mushrooms, or richly textured vegetarian dishes based on roasted root vegetables.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this grand cru at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Built for long ageing, it will reveal its full potential from around 2030 and can be cellared for fifteen to twenty years.
Other characteristics
The alcohol content of this vintage is between 12 and 13.5%.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Red Burgundy Wine
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The vineyard
The climat "Les Perrières" enjoys a privileged location within the Corton Grand Cru appellation, north of the village of Aloxe-Corton. The plot extends over 0.6 hectares and is home to very old vines planted in 1953 and 1954. This terroir takes its name from its deep soils, composed of clay, limestone and an abundance of small, round, pinkish stones. This stony geology provides excellent drainage and gives the grapes remarkable concentration as well as a very pronounced mineral identity.
The vintage
The 2023 growing season began with a mild, dry winter, leading to early budburst in April and rapid flowering in early June. The summer was punctuated by regular rainfall that protected the vines from drought, fostering a generous crop potential that required extensive green harvesting. Finally, an unprecedented heatwave in early September abruptly accelerated ripening, calling for swift harvesting in gruelling temperatures, but yielding healthy berries rich in sugar.
Winemaking and ageing
After rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo a slightly shortened cold maceration to preserve freshness. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks at controlled temperatures, with pumping over at the start of the cycle and punching down towards the end. Ageing is carried out using a measured proportion of new oak barrels. True to its philosophy, the estate bottles by gravity, without any fining or filtration, following the lunar calendar.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
