A Speyside single malt with rich, distinguished aromas
Glenfiddich, a pioneer of single malt Scotch whisky
Founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown in Speyside, Glenfiddich remains owned by the Grant family after five generations through W. Grant & Sons. This single malt Scotch whisky revolutionized the market by becoming the first to be widely marketed worldwide. The distillery stands out for its unique infrastructure including its own copperworks and cooperage, as well as its iconic triangular bottle created in 1956. A pioneer that created the modern premium single malt category, Glenfiddich is now the world’s best-selling single malt, distributed in more than 180 countries, maintaining its family independence in a sector dominated by major industrial groups.
Small Batch 18 Year Old, the art of small-batch marrying
Glenfiddich Small Batch 18 Year Old perfectly illustrates the distillery’s mastery of selective marrying. Unlike the 12 and 15 Year Old expressions, which marry more than 300 casks per batch, this expression favors an artisanal approach with only 150 casks carefully selected per batch.
The marrying combines 80% whisky aged in American bourbon casks (first and second fill) with 20% matured in sherry casks. After 18 years of separate maturation, the whiskies are married for an additional three months in marrying tuns before bottling, allowing for a perfect harmonization of flavors.
Each bottle bears its batch number, ensuring the traceability and authenticity of this small-batch production method that gives the whisky its remarkable complexity and distinctive character.
