Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Perrières" 2024 by Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Appearance
The colour reveals an intense ruby to garnet hue with a lovely brilliance.
Nose
Rich and complex, the bouquet releases aromas of ripe black fruits and red fruits, intertwined with delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony. With aeration, subtle notes of spice, forest floor and very fine oak emerge.
Palate
Full and concentrated, the palate impresses with its balance and perfectly controlled power. The supple, round texture stretches elegantly towards a remarkably long finish, marked by beautiful minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with white or red meats served with a creamy sauce. It will also elevate dishes with character and game, such as a beef bourguignon or a lièvre à la royale.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend decanting this wine about an hour before serving it at a temperature of around 18°C. With its solid potential, this wine is built for long cellaring.
The Controlled Power of an Aloxe-Corton Grand Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin, the eponymous house is today an essential reference in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, it farms around one hundred hectares, combining its own estate vineyards with rigorously selected grape purchases. Sold in 2012 to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié, the estate retains its identity thanks to cellar master Éric Germain. The house's philosophy revolves around a Très Haute Couture approach, favouring respect for terroirs and minimally interventionist winemaking to reveal the purity of each Climat.
The Vineyard
This Corton Grand Cru comes from plots ideally situated in the commune of Aloxe-Corton. The vines flourish on the finest exposures of the hillside, benefiting from a gentle, regular slope. The terroir is typical of this prestigious appellation, made up of marl-limestone soils that give Pinot Noir its structure, power and mineral signature. The vineyard is managed according to strict, sustainable principles, without herbicides or insecticides, with deep ploughing, high trellising and the use of natural composts.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage proved particularly demanding in terms of climate. Persistent, unfavourable weather conditions required constant attention and numerous treatments in the vineyard to preserve the health of the grapes. Despite these challenges, the rigorous work carried out throughout the growing cycle made it possible to achieve a very positive result at harvest.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by very strict sorting in the vineyard and then in the winery. After partial destemming, fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Extraction is very gentle in order to respect the finesse of the grape variety. The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months on fine lees in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak. Bottling follows the lunar calendar, without fining and with very light filtration if necessary.
