Characteristics and tasting notes for Vincent Girardin's Meursault 1er Cru "Les Perrières" 2024
Tasting notes
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful pale yellow colour, subtly enhanced by delicate golden highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with refreshing notes of citrus and white flowers, harmoniously complemented by rich, milky touches of fresh butter.
Palate
Both rich and remarkably dense, this cru comes across as particularly elegant and finely chiselled. Its pure texture stretches with precision towards a finish marked by superb mineral salinity. Although it may seem austere in its youth, it gains in power and expressiveness over the years.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine will beautifully enhance delicate, iodine-tinged dishes such as langoustine carpaccio, roasted prawns or scallops served with buttered cabbage. It will also pair wonderfully with grilled fish or white meats served in a creamy sauce.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, this Meursault 1er Cru "Les Perrières" 2024 should be served at a temperature of 12°C. With remarkable tension and a strong mineral identity, this wine boasts excellent ageing potential and will reveal its full complexity over time.
The mineral elegance of a great Burgundy Chardonnay by Vincent Girardin
The estate
Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin from two hectares of vines, the eponymous house is located in the heart of Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune. Now overseeing an estate vineyard of twenty-two hectares, the brand was acquired in 2012 by Jean-Pierre Nié, president of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois. Under the technical direction of Éric Germain, the estate stands out for its "Très Haute Couture" approach, combining sustainable practices with minimal-intervention winemaking to reveal the purity of its exceptional terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Les Perrières" plot is located south of the village of Meursault, on a gently sloping, ideally exposed hillside. This terroir rests on homogeneous, shallow and very stony brown clay-limestone soils dating back to the Bathonian geological period, with a strong presence of white marl. The vines, averaging fifty to seventy-five years old, are trained using the Guyot Poussard pruning method. The estate follows environmentally friendly practices, including rigorous green harvesting work such as debudding, trellising and topping to ensure the health and balance of the vines.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. The vines faced constant climatic pressure throughout the growing cycle, requiring unwavering vigilance and regular intervention to protect the grapes and bring the harvest to a successful conclusion under the best possible conditions.
Winemaking and ageing
Following hand-harvesting and a rigorous double sorting process, both in the vineyard and at the winery, the grapes undergo gentle, slow pneumatic pressing. The must is lightly settled before being placed into 228-litre French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation begin naturally, driven by indigenous yeasts and bacteria. This Meursault 1er Cru "Les Perrières" 2024 is aged on fine lees for approximately eighteen months, with no stirring (bâtonnage). One month before bottling, which takes place according to the lunar calendar, the wine is blended in stainless steel tanks, then lightly fined and filtered.
