The elegance of a great Burgundy Chardonnay by Vincent Girardin

    The estate

Founded in 1994, the négociant house Vincent Girardin is an essential name of Burgundy, based in Meursault. Today at the head of a vineyard of about 100 hectares spread across the Côte de Beaune, the brand has belonged since 2012 to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois. Technical direction is entrusted to the oenologist Éric Germain, who perpetuates a haute couture philosophy of winemaking. The estate stands out for its approach inspired by biodynamics and its meticulous work aimed at expressing the purest identity of the great terroirs.

    The vineyard

This wine comes from the "Les Pucelles" climat, one of the most prestigious premiers crus of the village of Puligny-Montrachet, located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. The plot lies in the northern section of the commune, immediately adjacent to the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet grand cru. The vines, averaging 50 years of age and originating from a massal selection, thrive on clay-limestone soil. They are trained using the Guyot method, with rigorous green work such as disbudding, trellising and topping, in a respectful approach inspired by biodynamics.

    Winemaking and aging

The production of this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2024 begins with manual harvesting accompanied by careful sorting directly on the vines. After light crushing, the grapes undergo pneumatic pressing followed by gentle settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts and bacteria, in 228-litre French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 18 months, without any bâtonnage. One month before bottling, it is racked into vat, then bottled after light fining and gentle filtration.
