    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Hermitage 2023 Yann Chave

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep garnet hue with violet highlights, underscored by beautiful brilliance.

    Nose
Intense and expressive, the nose opens with aromas of black fruits such as blueberry and blackberry, mingled with delicate smoky and spicy notes. With aeration, subtle touches of violet, precious wood, blond tobacco and black truffle emerge.

    Palate
The attack is full and assertive, paving the way for an opulent, structured mid-palate. The tannins are silky and perfectly integrated. Flavours of red and black fruits intertwine with smoky and hazelnut nuances, extending into a remarkably long finish, carried by a delicate freshness.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as roast pigeon with wild mushrooms, aged beef or a herb-crusted rack of lamb. It will also enhance pan-seared duck breast, roast poultry or a spiced, matured cheese.

    Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Hermitage 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 15.5°C, after decanting for one to two hours. Approachable from today thanks to its freshness, this wine has remarkable ageing potential and can be cellared until around 2043.

    Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.

The precision and complexity of a great wine from the Hermitage appellation

    The estate

Founded in 1970 by Bernard and Nicole Chave with four hectares in Mercurol, the estate is a benchmark of the Rhône Valley in France. In 1996, their son Yann Chave joined the venture and gave his name to the estate. Now owner of a vineyard of around 20 hectares, he instils a philosophy focused on quality and respect for the terroir. Certified organic since 2007, the Yann Chave estate is preparing for the future with the growing involvement of the new generation, embodied by Daphné and Gautier.

    The vineyard

The grapes used for this wine come from a small plot of around one hectare located on the legendary hill of the Hermitage appellation, within the prestigious Beaume and Péléat lieux-dits. South-facing, these old vines of over forty years, grown from massale selection, thrive on soils composed of loess and granite. The vineyard is entirely managed according to the principles of organic farming.

    The vintage

The year 2023 was characterised by sunny, early weather in the region. Despite some climatic challenges faced in the vineyards, this vintage achieved optimal ripeness, yielding grapes with fine concentration and remarkable balance.

    Winemaking and ageing

Harvesting for this Hermitage 2023 begins at sunrise. The berries are fully destemmed before a maceration period of around four weeks, punctuated by gentle pump-overs for a soft extraction, without punching down. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, with temperatures kept below 28°C. Ageing then takes place in 600-litre used demi-muids for 24 months, followed by six months' rest in tank before bottling. The wine is neither fined nor filtered.

    Grape variety

    100% Syrah.
