Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Ambonnay Rouge 2024 from Champagne Egly-Ouriet
Tasting
Colour
This red Coteaux Champenois shows an intense ruby hue, with deep highlights that bear witness to its fine concentration.
Nose
The nose typically opens with floral notes of fresh rose and wildflowers, before giving way to a bouquet of red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Spicy touches of white pepper and chalky mineral nuances complete this aromatic palette, which is sometimes enhanced by notes of cocoa or smoke, depending on the vintage.
Palate
On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and voluptuous, carried by a silky, enveloping texture. The fine tannins, imbued with limestone minerality, are matched by a lively yet perfectly integrated acidity, leading to a particularly long finish that is both floral and fruity.
Food and wine pairings
This wine is an ideal match for a fine côte de bœuf or veal kidneys in old-style mustard sauce. It also pairs very well with fine poultry and game birds (duck, quail), matured beef carpaccio, mushroom risotto or mature cheeses such as Comté.

The estate
Based in Ambonnay, in Champagne, the Egly-Ouriet estate was founded in the immediate post-war years under the name Egly-Jouet, before the name Egly-Ouriet became established over the generations. Today run by Francis Egly, supported by his children Clémence and Charles, the estate cultivates a vineyard spread mainly across the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims. Committed to viticulture that respects the living environment and to long ageing, Egly-Ouriet has established itself as a benchmark among terroir-driven Champagnes.
The vineyard
Ambonnay Rouge, classified under the Coteaux Champenois appellation, comes from old Pinot Noir vines located in the heart of the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. The soils here are slightly deeper than average, and the due-south exposure favours full ripeness of the fruit. Yields are deliberately limited, with the vines cultivated without insecticides, notably thanks to the use of mating disruption across the entire estate.
Vinification and ageing
Ambonnay Rouge 2024 continues the estate's expertise for this confidential cuvée: hand harvesting, long maceration at controlled temperature to extract substance without harshness, then ageing in oak barrels. This approach, carried out with indigenous yeasts, aims to preserve the expression of the Ambonnay terroir while refining the texture of the tannins.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Pinot Noir, sourced exclusively from the Grand Cru of Ambonnay.
