Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 2017 from Egly-Ouriet
Tasting
Nose
This Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 2017 reveals an indulgent nose marked by aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit and citrus, supported by pastry and lightly brioche-like notes.
Palate
The palate is full and textured, with a rich attack and a fleshy, enveloping mid-palate. A racy acidity and a chalky backbone bring freshness and tension, leading to a long, savoury finish with notes of citrus and minerality.
Serving and cellaring
This Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 2017 is ideally served between 10°C and 12°C, allowing its aromatic richness to express itself fully. It can be enjoyed now and will keep for several more years in the cellar, depending on storage conditions.
Egly-Ouriet Ambonnay: the precision of Pinot Noir on a chalk terroir
The estate
Founded in Ambonnay in the aftermath of the Second World War, Egly-Ouriet has grown over the generations and today extends to nearly 20 hectares spread across Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites on the Montagne de Reims in Champagne. Now led by Francis Egly, alongside his children Clémence and Charles, the house has established itself as a benchmark for Pinot Noir, renowned for its low yields, barrel vinification and long ageing on lees in bottle.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes exclusively from the Grand Cru terroir of Ambonnay, owned by Francis Egly, where clay-limestone soils resting on chalk provide natural drainage and a strong mineral identity. Facing mainly south and south-east, the vines enjoy steady ripening while retaining the freshness characteristic of the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims.
The vintage
The 2017 vintage is considered a challenging year in Champagne, one that called for precise winemaking to fully express the natural richness of the grapes harvested in Ambonnay.
Vinification and ageing
This Grand Cru Brut Millésimé 2017 is vinified and aged in oak barrels, with indigenous yeasts and without malolactic fermentation. The wine then rests for several years on lees in bottle before disgorgement, and receives a measured dosage, characteristic of this cuvée.
Grape varieties
This cuvée is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both harvested from the Grand Cru of Ambonnay.
