    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Brut Vintage "Édition Vinothèque" 2006 by Pol Roger

    Tasting

    Appearance
This wine reveals a seductive deep golden hue, adorned with subtle bronze highlights. The effervescence displays remarkable finesse, forming a persistent and delicate bead.

    Nose
Initially restrained, the bouquet opens up with power and complexity. It exudes rich aromas of almond paste, quince, date and dried apricots, intertwined with indulgent touches of caramel and frangipane. Nuances of apple, toasted brioche and a hint of sloe eau-de-vie perfectly round out this beautifully mature aromatic palette.

    Palate
The attack is ample, generous and voluptuous, supported by a beautiful acidity that brings freshness. The creamy texture reveals delicious notes of gingerbread and citrus confectionery. The finish, warm and remarkably long, extends over hints of almond and a lemony vivacity, offering a perfect balance between indulgent roundness and elegance.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with rich and refined dishes. It will enhance poultry prepared in a sweet-and-savoury style, such as capon with apricots or dates, as well as delicately roasted feathered game. This great wine will also be the ideal companion to foie gras served on toasted brioche or fine seafood accompanied by a creamy sauce.

    Serving and ageing
The Brut Vintage "Édition Vinothèque" 2006 reveals its full potential thanks to a long ageing process in the house's cellars. Disgorged in 2016, it possesses a structure and acidity that give it excellent ageing potential, although it can be enjoyed with great pleasure right now.

    Other characteristics
Drawn from a meticulous selection of older vintages, this cuvée has benefited from extended ageing. The dosage is 7 g/l. Each bottle, hand-dressed as a tribute to the original bottles, is presented in an elegant wooden case. This wine is available in a 75 cl bottle and a 150 cl magnum.

A vintage Champagne of remarkable elegance and generosity

    The estate
Founded in 1849, the illustrious Pol Roger House is located in Épernay, in the heart of the Champagne wine region. Remarkably, it remains a family-owned and independent brand, today chaired by Laurent D'Harcourt, representing the continuity of the founding family. The estate is built upon a vineyard of 400 acres, including 220 acres owned and 180 acres under contract, spread across exceptional terroirs. Renowned for its cellars 33 metres deep and its historic ties with Winston Churchill, the house favours limited production to ensure the excellence of its wines.

    The vineyard
The grapes that make up this cuvée come from a rigorous selection of twenty Champagne Grands and Premiers Crus. These exceptional plots are ideally distributed between the Montagne de Reims, which brings structure, and the Côte des Blancs, renowned for the finesse of its fruit.

    The vintage
The 2006 year began with particularly dry weather, followed by two months marked by rainfall. The vines were completely spared by spring frosts. June, warm and bathed in sunshine, provided optimal conditions for flowering. After a cooler and wetter month of August, the return of mild weather in early September allowed the berries to reach ideal ripeness. The harvest thus took place from 6 to 25 September.

    Winemaking and ageing
As soon as the grapes are harvested, the bunches are pressed swiftly and gently. The must undergoes a double settling process: the first at the pressing centre, the second cold (6°C) in the vat room for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at low temperature (under 18°C) in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with each cru and grape variety vinified separately. After malolactic fermentation, the blend is made. The second fermentation and ageing of the Brut Vintage "Édition Vinothèque" 2006 take place 33 metres underground, at a constant temperature of 9°C, for nearly ten years. Riddling is carried out by hand, in the purest respect of tradition, prior to disgorgement.

    Grape varieties
This wine is the result of a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay.
