    Description

The refinement and aromatic finesse of a Moulis red wine

    The estate

It was in 2008 that the Cuvelier family, already owners of Clos Fourtet, Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, acquired the Château Poujeaux. Since then, the beautiful Médoc estate has experienced a true renaissance. Led by Mathieu Cuvelier and Christophe Labenne with vinifications carried out under the advice of consulting oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, Château Poujeaux stands out among the most beautiful references of the Moulis appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux.

    The vineyard

Located northeast of the Moulis appellation, the vineyard of Château Poujeaux extends over 70 hectares in one piece. The 30-year-old vines on average benefit from an exceptional location on the Günzian Graves slopes. This great terroir perfectly benefits the Médoc grape varieties. From this terroir-grape variety match, great wines typical of the Moulis appellation are born, between density and elegance.

    The vintage

A deluge of autumn gives way to contrasting weather between humidity and extreme mildness. The château's teams redouble their efforts to manage the waterlogged soils and protect the vineyard from high mildew pressure. The vegetative cycle begins early. By mid-June, the rains finally stop to make way for a heatwave summer. Started early, the harvest allows for the collection of fully ripe grapes.

Despite lower yields than average, the quality is heterogeneous with concentrated merlots, cabernet sauvignons and petit verdots revealing rich tannins and a beautiful aromatic complexity. 2020 perpetuates the series of beautiful vintages all in balance, finesse and depth.

    Vinification and aging

Parcel vinification. Fermentation of whole berries in 51 thermoregulated stainless steel, wood and concrete vats. Extraction by pump-overs. Maceration from 20 to 25 days. The aging lasts 12 months in barrels (of which 33% are new).

    Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (54%), merlot (40%), petit verdot (6%).
