Pale lemon and more complex thanks to vinification in oak, it can rival a Pessac-Leognan.

The 2012 Lune d'Or has an intriguing bouquet, not unlike a Loire with some maturity. Touches of wet wool permeate the citrus fruit, and hints of beeswax emerge with time. The palate is well balanced, with white chocolate and walnut on the entry, a slightly yeasty style, but with adequate freshness on the finish.

From a selection of the estate’s best 100 barrels, grapefruit, lemon, lime, honeysuckle and mineral notes pop from the glass with little effort. The wine is concentrated, fresh, long, citrusy, sweet, lively and complex. 91-93 pts

Fifteen barrels still maturing. The palate is rich, full, and flavorful, with a complex, long finish. It’s very good and suitable for ageing. Blend: 70% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon.

    Description

The nose of Clos des Lunes Lune d'or 2012 is intense and refined, revealing vine peach, acacia blossom and delicate exotic fragrances, all heightened by a vibrant mineral complexity, the hallmark of great gravelly terroirs. On the palate, the subtle, fruity caress of the attack gives way to a sensation of power intertwined with delicacy. The Sémillon seeks to dominate, but the Sauvignon lends it an ethereal poise. This harmonious waltz between the two grape varieties lingers on amid an array of diverse, refined mineral flavours. A few years in the cellar will allow this dry Bordeaux to fill out and reveal its full potential. Great Wine, Great Pleasure.
