    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Beaune 1er Cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2018 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful, bright and enticing ruby-red colour, whose intensity reflects the fine maturity of the vintage.

    Nose
Particularly expressive, the aromatic bouquet opens with generous notes of red fruits such as cherry, strawberry and raspberry. The whole is harmoniously underlined by hints of spices, subtle floral nuances and a light touch of oak.

    Palate
The palate offers an ample, well-structured texture, carried by fine, gently vibrant tannins. The refreshing acidity perfectly balances the generosity of the fruit, giving this wine a remarkable delicacy that stretches into a long, persistent finish with spicy accents.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with delicate meats such as roasted poultry, veal, or traditional dishes like coq au vin or a light bœuf bourguignon. It also goes very well with moderately intense cheeses, such as Époisses or semi-hard cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring

While it can already be enjoyed in its youth thanks to its already mellow tannins, the Beaune 1er Cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2018 has beautiful ageing potential and can rest in the cellar until around 2028.

    Other characteristics

This red wine stands out for its dry profile, with no residual sweetness.

The elegance and structure of a Beaune Premier Cru

    The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. Historically based in Beaune, it now shines across many appellations of the region. While economic ownership belongs to the American Kopf family, operational management is entrusted to Thomas Seiter, who succeeds Pierre-Henry Gagey. Combining a prestigious négoce activity with a vast heritage estate, Louis Jadot stands out for its faithfulness to the expression of Burgundian terroirs and its strong commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture.

    The vineyard

The Theurons climat is recognised as one of the most emblematic of the Beaune appellation. Ideally located mid-slope to the south-west of the town, the vines benefit from a beautiful southern and south-eastern exposure. They flourish on deep, well-drained soils composed of limestone marls and clays. Part of the Domaine des Héritiers, these plots receive careful attention, including rigorous soil work, the preservation of biodiversity and a progressive transition to organic farming to enhance the authenticity of the terroir.

    The vintage

The 2018 vintage was marked by particularly warm and sunny weather. These mild climatic conditions favoured an optimal growing cycle, leading to generous yields and excellent berry maturity at harvest.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2018 are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and then destemmed. Fermentation takes place in vats with measured punching down and pumping over for a gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood (around 20 to 30%), for 12 to 15 months in order to refine its structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
