    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Beaune 1er cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2021 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful deep ruby hue verging on garnet, underlined by remarkable clarity and brilliance.

    Nose
Expressive and complex, the nose opens with aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. It is then enhanced by delicate floral notes of violet, sweet spices and subtle woody and mineral touches.

    Palate
Endowed with a medium to full-bodied structure, the palate offers a fruity attack supported by fine, velvety tannins. A lovely freshness balances the whole, leading to a persistent finish with spicy nuances.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, dishes in sauce such as boeuf bourguignon, as well as full-flavoured poultry or small feathered game. It also perfectly accompanies soft-rind cheeses such as brie or camembert, or vegetarian dishes with mushrooms and root vegetables.

    Serving and cellaring

Boasting a fine structure, this Beaune 1er cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2021 has excellent ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2031.

The classic and elegant expression of a Beaune Premier Cru by Louis Jadot

    The estate

Officially founded in 1859, the Louis Jadot house is a leading institution in Burgundy. At the head of a vast vineyard spanning several hundred hectares from the Côte d'Or to Beaujolais, the estate is now led by its president Thomas Seiter, alongside cellar master Frédéric Barnier. Renowned for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach and profound respect for terroirs, the house stands out for its strong commitment to sustainable viticulture and a gradual conversion to organic farming, while preserving the authentic identity of its wines.

    The vineyard

Located on the south-western slope of the commune of Beaune, the Theurons climat lies mid-slope on soils rich in limestone marl and clay. This terroir benefits from excellent drainage. The vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture, including mechanical ploughing, controlled grass cover and the abandonment of herbicides, all part of an overall approach to preserving biodiversity.

    The vintage

The year was marked by challenging weather conditions across the region, notably episodes of spring frost followed by strong pressure from fungal diseases. These challenges required constant attention in the vineyard to preserve the health of the grapes and ensure optimal ripeness despite reduced yields.

    Vinification and ageing

To craft this Beaune 1er cru "Theurons" Famille Gagey 2021, fermentation takes place in open vats with measured extraction through punch-downs and pump-overs, favouring the use of indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels (of which 20 to 30% are new) for a period of 12 to 18 months, in order to refine its tannic structure without masking the vibrancy of the fruit.
