Fermented in open vats and aged 18–20 months in barrel. Cask sample. Lovely fragrance of pure, dark-red fruits. Both floral and lightly peppery. One of the first Jadot wines to have proper depth on the mid palate, allied to super-fine tannins that enhance the freshness. Gently chewy finish. (JH)

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Fuées" 2023 by Louis Jadot

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful, limpid ruby to cherry red hue, offering the characteristic translucency of great wines made from Pinot Noir.

    Nose
Delicate and complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red fruits such as raspberry and wild strawberry. It is then enriched with floral nuances evoking violet and rose, complemented by subtle hints of spices, citrus zest and a marked minerality reminiscent of limestone soils.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its exceptional finesse and silky texture. The fine, perfectly integrated tannins support a palate that is both concentrated in red fruits and enlivened by a crisp acidity, bringing a saline, penetrating dimension. The finish, persistent and elegant, lingers at length on mineral notes and subtle woody touches.

    Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with refined meats such as a filet mignon or a tournedos chasseur. It also enhances noble poultry, such as roast duck à l'orange, as well as feathered game (pheasant, quail). Mushroom-based dishes, such as a porcini risotto, or soft-ripened cheeses (Reblochon, Époisses) are excellent choices to accompany it.

    Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Fuées" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, taking care to open it 30 to 60 minutes before tasting. This wine has excellent ageing potential and can develop favourably in the cellar until around 2038.

The elegance and minerality of a Premier Cru from Chambolle-Musigny

    The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a leading institution located in Beaune, in Burgundy. The estate today extends over approximately 213 hectares of vines, including prestigious Premier and Grand Cru sites. Owned by the American Kopf family since 1985, the House is currently led by Thomas Seiter, president, and Thibault Gagey, managing director. Faithful to its philosophy centred on the authentic expression of terroir, the estate stands out for its growing commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture.

    The vineyard
The "Les Fuées" climat is a prestigious Premier Cru located in the northern part of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. Resting on the mid-slope at an altitude ranging between 265 and 295 metres, this terroir benefits from an eastern exposure that promotes a slow, balanced ripening of the grapes. The vines flourish on shallow soils composed of limestone and clay marls, giving the wine its distinctive minerality.

    The vintage
The 2023 vintage benefited from cool climatic conditions, allowing the berries to retain a beautiful natural acidity and to offer a crisp, precise definition at harvest.

    Winemaking and ageing
Vinification begins with a long maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled vats over three to four weeks, driven by indigenous or selected yeasts. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 15 to 20 months. The proportion of new barrels is carefully controlled in order to structure the wine without masking the brightness of the fruit.

    Grape variety
    Pinot Noir (100%).
