Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Garenne" 2023 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale to light gold hue, bright and transparent, enhanced by delicate greenish reflections typical of its youth.
Nose
The bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of fresh lemon and citrus fruits, strongly marked by a chalky minerality. It then reveals elegant notes of white flowers such as hawthorn, accompanied by fresh almond and a touch of hazelnut. With aeration, subtle nuances of white honey, sweet vanilla and fresh pear emerge.
Palate
Satiny and subtle, the palate offers a medium body supported by a vibrant, perfectly integrated acidity. It echoes the aromatic profile with flavours of ripe citrus, white apple and hazelnut. The finish is remarkably long, distinguished by a saline and intensely chalky persistence.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with refined seafood such as langoustines or oysters, as well as with delicate fish like sole meunière. It also enhances white meats served with mushrooms, or aged cheeses such as Comté and fresh goat cheese.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine between 11 and 13°C, ideally after one to two hours of aeration. This Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Garenne" 2023 can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop its complexity until around 2030.
The mineral elegance of a Premier Cru from Puligny-Montrachet by Louis Jadot
The estate
Founded in 1859, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. Based in Beaune, it stands out for its unique model combining a négociant business with a vast 270-hectare wine estate. Producing wines across 150 different appellations, the property showcases the full richness of Burgundian terroirs. Now led by Thomas Seiter, the house upholds a philosophy of excellence and environmental respect, crowned in 2024 by organic certification for all the vines on its estate.
The vineyard
The Climat La Garenne is one of the prestigious Premiers Crus of the village of Puligny-Montrachet. Located at around 330 metres in altitude, this historic parcel benefits from a cooler environment and an ideal south-eastern exposure. The old vines thrive on shallow soils, dominated by very pure white limestone and scree, forcing the roots to draw their nutrients from deep down. This unique high-altitude terroir gives the grapes exceptional concentration and a distinctive mineral tension.
Winemaking and ageing
For this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Garenne" 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting upon arrival. The whole bunches undergo gentle pressing before fermentation in French oak barrels, without artificial temperature control. Ageing then continues for 8 to 10 months in the same barrels, 30 to 50% of which are new. Very light filtration and fining complete the process to preserve all the structure of the cuvée.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
