Description
A Champagne from the Montagne de Reims Expressing the Verticality of Northern Terroirs
The Estate
Founded in 1960 by Georges Huré, the family estate took the name Champagne Huré Frères when his three sons took over in 1971. Located in Ludes on the Montagne de Reims, it cultivates 11 hectares of vines on limestone and clay-limestone soils, complemented by grapes sourced from Rilly-la-Montagne and Villers-Marmery. Since 2008, François Huré has overseen winemaking, while Pierre has managed viticulture since 2012. Currently converting to organic farming, with certification expected in 2025, the house favors an approach that highlights the character of each village.
The Vineyard
"Instantanée" is a Blanc de Noirs Champagne crafted from four parcels located in Ludes and Rilly-la-Montagne, on the northern slope of the Montagne de Reims. The vines in Ludes flourish on clay and sand soils, while those in Rilly-la-Montagne benefit from chalky terroirs. This northern exposure imparts the wine with its signature verticality and saline minerality, hallmarks of the cool climates in this Champagne region.
Winemaking and Aging
A mixed approach is used for aging, with 60% of the wine matured in barrels and 40% in stainless steel tanks. The Champagne then rested on the lees for a full 5 years, developing aromatic complexity and a creamy texture before being disgorged with a minimal Extra Brut dosage of 2.5 g/l.
Grape Varieties
The Instantanée Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2018 from Champagne Huré Frères is a blend composed of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, deliberately omitting Chardonnay to showcase the pure expression of the black grape varieties from the Montagne de Reims.
