    Description

Château-Figeac unveils a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, captivating with its freshness and aromatic intensity

    The estate

A Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château-Figeac embodies the excellence of the great wines of Saint-Émilion worldwide. Château-Figeac has been owned by the Manoncourt family since 1892.

    The vineyard

Château-Figeac benefits from an exceptional location to the west of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the border of the Pomerol appellation. The estate's vineyard covers 40 hectares of vines planted on three different gravel ridges. Respect for biodiversity, flora and fauna is at the heart of the estate's concerns. The vine plantings consist of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

    The vintage

While late 2009 was marked by heavy rainfall favoring the replenishment of water reserves, the winter of 2010 was particularly cold and dry. The budburst, which began in early April, was uniform but slow due to low temperatures, as was the fruit set, hampered by the mixed conditions in June. In July and August, more clement weather ensured optimal berry ripening, and the diurnal temperature variations were ideal for perfect polyphenol synthesis. Veraison was rapid, and the health of the vineyard was impeccable. Manual harvesting was carried out according to the ripeness of each parcel. The grapes harvested were balanced and offered beautiful aromatic complexity while preserving lovely freshness.

    Vinification and aging

The grapes, handpicked with the utmost care, undergo optical sorting to retain only berries of exceptional quality. Extended maceration without extraction of astringent tannins. Fermentation in wooden and stainless steel vats, accompanied by punch-downs adapted to each parcel. Submerged cap maceration for lots vinified in wooden vats promotes natural infusion and the softening of tannins. The aging, which lasts 18 months, is carried out in French oak barrels (100% new).

    Blend

1/3 Merlot, 1/3 Cabernet Franc, 1/3 Cabernet Sauvignon.
