    Decanter

Savoury herbal and dried floral scents on the nose. Fruit-forward and lively, this has a lovely sense of ease. The fruit subsides a little from the mid-palate, tapering to reveal more salty, stony, liquorice notes and subtle toasted edges, but it starts so well with precision and focus. Charming in a quiet way. Will be good to re-taste after bottling.

Quite floral in nature, the wine is medium-bodied, with a fresh, fruity character allowing you to experience all the cherries, plums, licorice, chocolate, and vibrancy, just about on release. The finish is focused, clean, elegant, and fresh. The wine blends 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2028-2044. 92-94 Pts

    Le Figaro Vin

A clean nose, like a gentleman fresh from his toilette. Notes of cedar and bitter orange peel lead the aromatic dance, followed by morello cherry and wild strawberry. Tangy and energetic, the palate remains indulgent with succulent, crunchy black fruit and rising acidity, before a long, mouthwatering finish. [ideally replace with details from the château tasting]

    Vertdevin

The nose is fruity, with notes of fresh spices, harmony, a touch of subtle power, fine intensity and very delicate peppery hints. It reveals notes of Boysenberry, crushed strawberry, and, more lightly, blueberry, with touches of bigarreau cherry and a hint of lilac. The palate is fruity, fresh, and mineral, offering a fresh backbone, a slight glycerol feel, fine roundness, suppleness, and smoothness. On the palate, this wine shows notes of bright blackcurrant, vivid purple plum, and, more lightly, cornflower, with touches of small red berries, as well as fine hints of lilac, tobacco, and a smoky note. Good length. A delicate touch of tonka bean in the background. A fine chew on the finish/persistence.

    Description

A balanced Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine with delicate tannins

    The estate
Château Grand Mayne stands like a ship anchored in the heart of the Saint-Émilion vineyards. Although its foundations date back to the 15th century, it was only in the 17th century that it entered viticultural history under the impetus of the Laveau family. They brought the estate to its peak in the 18th century. In 1934, the Nony family became the owner and initiated significant restoration works. Still at the helm, they continue today to uphold the tradition of excellence of this major right-bank Bordeaux reference.

    The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Grand Mayne stretches over clay-limestone soils characteristic of Saint-Émilion, benefiting from an exceptional terroir. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, flourish on these hillside and lower slope terrains, offering optimal conditions for the expression of the grape varieties.

    The wine

2024 celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Nony family at the head of the estate. On this occasion, the bottle is adorned with a dedicated label.

    The vintage

After a very wet winter and a humid spring until June, the summer proved dry and sunny, promoting a progressive ripening of the grapes. The low summer rainfall (35 mm in July-August) allowed for a classic harvest: the Merlots were picked at the end of September, followed by the Cabernets in early October, benefiting from the season's last heat to reach optimal maturity.

    Vinification and aging
Malolactic fermentation takes place according to a precise distribution: 40% in new barrels, 40% in one- and two-wine barrels, and 20% in wooden vats. The aging follows the same proportions, allowing a subtle balance between oak influence and the preservation of the fruit. This approach ensures a harmonious integration of the different constituent elements of the wine.

    Blend

The blend of this Château Grand Mayne 2024 is composed of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.
