The classic elegance of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
The history of Château Larmande dates back to 1585, making it one of the oldest estates in its appellation. Located in the renowned Bordeaux region, the estate has stood the test of time, notably under the stewardship of the Capdemourlin-Meneret family, before being acquired at the end of 1990 by the insurance group La Mondiale. Today, the estate is owned by the AG2R La Mondiale group. Guided by values that combine historical heritage with modernity, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment and for producing wines that reflect their terroir.
The vineyard
Covering an area of 20 to 22 hectares, the vineyard lies in the north of the Saint-Emilion appellation. The vines thrive on clay-limestone soils composed of ancient sands, clay and silica. This high-quality terroir enjoys a favourable topography that allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, while benefiting from the mild oceanic climate.
The vintage
The 1997 vintage offered fair to good weather conditions in the region, allowing the berries to reach satisfactory ripeness. This growing season produced fruit-driven, approachable wines with medium structure.
Vinification and ageing
For Château Larmande 1997, extraction was carried out with precision and restraint in order to preserve the balance between concentration and finesse. The wine was aged traditionally in oak barrels, giving it a modern touch and elegant oak.
Grape varieties
The estate's classic varietal mix consists of approximately 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
