    Description

Château Quintus crafts a precise and velvety Saint-Émilion wine

    The estate

Château Quintus was born from the union of the terroirs of Château Tertre Daugay and Château L’Arrosée, acquired by the family-owned Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and 2013 respectively. The Château Quintus thus became the fifth property of the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming a fifth child Quintus.

    The vineyard

The 28-hectare vineyard of this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru owes its uniqueness to a mosaic of terroirs. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are planted on the plateau over a succession of south-facing limestone strata, as well as on clay-limestone soils and gravelly areas exposed south to north of the estate.

    The vintage

Winter and spring weather conditions encouraged early bud break and flowering. The summer season was marked by an extremely dry climate with no rainfall between mid-June and mid-August, slowing vine development. The vine was protected from water stress by its clayey terroir and sufficient reserves replenished by a wet spring. Throughout the growing cycle, viticultural practices were adapted to the vintage, notably through limited interventions in summer. Green harvesting was restricted to preserve vine foliage and protect it from direct sun. Early harvesting allowed grapes to be picked at full maturity.

    Blend

Merlot (62.5%) and Cabernet Franc (37.5%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Quintus 2020

    Tasting

    Color
The color is a beautiful deep purple.

    Nose
Dense and complex, the nose combines, over the course of aeration, fragrances of ripe red and black fruits with subtle spicy notes.

    Palate
With a broad, fleshy attack, the palate seduces with its velvety texture, its firm and precise tannic framework, and its length. The Cabernet Franc brings structure and freshness to this Château Quintus 2020 Blend, which expresses the refinement and richness of a great vintage.
