Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Les Pins 2024 from Domaine Bernard Gripa
Tasting
Appearance
This white Saint-Péray shows a pale yellow colour with golden highlights, bright and luminous, a sign of freshness and purity.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of fresh pear and white flowers, enhanced by notes of citrus and stone fruit such as apricot. A hint of white pepper and a light herbaceous, almost resinous touch complete the bouquet, while almond and subtle spicy notes evoke the wine's time spent on fine lees.
Palate
The palate is broad and juicy, carried by a generous texture that never feels heavy. Marsanne brings richness and roundness, while Roussanne extends the finish with greater finesse and a light salinity. Well-integrated acidity and controlled bitterness support a persistent, silky and vibrant length, on a mineral backdrop with delicate oak touches.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Saint-Péray pairs harmoniously with roast poultry, grilled fish or fish carpaccio, as well as pasta and mushroom risottos. It also goes well with fine charcuterie such as pistachio sausage, and finds a lovely echo in soft or pressed cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
We recommend serving Les Pins 2024 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, to allow its aromas to express themselves fully. This wine can be enjoyed now for its brightness and freshness, but it will continue to evolve until around 2033.
A Saint-Péray Marked by the Minerality of Domaine Bernard Gripa
The Estate
The name Domaine Bernard Gripa first appeared on labels in 1974, when Bernard Gripa decided to bottle his own wines in Mauves, in the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation, in the northern Rhône Valley. Since 2001, the estate has been run by Fabrice Gripa, winemaker, owner and manager, who continues his father's work. The vineyard covers 17 to 18 hectares, split almost equally between red and white varieties, a rarity in Mauves. The plots are tended by hand on the granite and limestone terraces of Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray.
The Vineyard
The Les Pins cuvée comes from plots located in the Putiers sector, in the south of the Saint-Péray appellation, on granite slopes overlooking the Rhône plain. The soils combine a surface layer of clay and limestone with weathered granite in the subsoil, giving a marked mineral tension. The vines, more than forty years old, are managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, with deliberately low yields. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, as the terraces make any mechanised work impossible.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage stands out for a less sun-drenched character than previous years, favouring remarkable freshness and precision. These climatic conditions allowed the Marsanne and Roussanne grapes to reach full aromatic ripeness while retaining lively acidity, resulting in wines that are both bursting with fruit and carried by a vibrant mineral tension.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for Les Pins 2024 are hand-harvested, then slowly pressed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on fine lees, split between concrete tanks and old oak barrels, which lends it a broad texture without ever masking the freshness of the fruit or the minerality of the terroir.
Grape Varieties
This blend marries Marsanne, which brings depth and roundness to the wine, with Roussanne, which gives it aromatic finesse and tension.
