    Description

An ample Saint-Émilion Second Wine with wonderful complexity

    The estate

Château Quintus is the result of the union of the terroirs of Château Tertre Daugay and Château L'Arrosée, acquired by the family company Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property in the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming one's fifth child Quintus.

    The vineyard

Château Quintus is a Saint-Émilion wine produced from a 42-hectare vineyard with a unique mosaic of terroirs. The vines, which are on average 30 years old, are planted on the plateau, on a succession of south-facing limestone strata, as well as on south-facing clay-limestone and gravel soils to the north of the property.

    The wine

Dragon de Quintus is Château Quintus’s Second Wine.

    The vintage

The relatively dry winter conditions lasted until early spring. The bud-break recorded at the end of March and vegetative growth were slowed by a spell of frost lasting several days. This was followed by warmer weather from April onwards. The reduction in human intervention in the vineyard ensured good ripening without any signs of scalding. The vines withstood a hot summer, punctuated by light rain at the beginning of August, which unlocked the ripening process. The early harvest was carried out in a perfectly healthy terroir, where the clay-limestone soils were able to preserve their freshness. Despite their small size, the grapes were of excellent quality.

    Winemaking and ageing

Meticulous sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar to ensure that only the best grapes were kept. Aged in barrels (29.6% new).

    Blend

    Merlot (81,6%)
    Cabernet Franc (12,1%)
    Malbec (6,3%).
