Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" Héritiers Louis Jadot 2020
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale yellow hue with golden reflections, bright and luminous, characteristic of a great white Burgundy from a warm vintage.
Nose
The nose displays remarkable aromatic complexity. The first notes evoke yellow-fleshed fruits such as peach and pear, accompanied by citrus nuances (grapefruit, lemon). The bouquet is enriched with floral scents of acacia and rose, while mineral aromas of wet stone and flint bring an additional dimension. Spicy touches of pepper and anise, along with subtle toasted and vanilla notes from barrel ageing, complete this olfactory palette.
Palate
On the palate, this wine impresses with its richness and concentration, while retaining remarkable mineral precision. The texture is ample and flavourful, carried by a beautiful acidity that structures the whole. The alcohol content of 13.5% contributes to the roundness without compromising freshness. The finish stands out for its exceptional length, where mineral notes and acidity linger with elegance.
Food and wine pairings
This Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" Héritiers Louis Jadot 2020 pairs magnificently with shellfish such as langoustines, lobster or scallops. It also brilliantly accompanies noble fish such as turbot or sea bream, particularly when prepared with creamy or buttery sauces. White meats, sweetbreads, foie gras as well as dishes featuring truffles or wild mushrooms also make excellent matches. Noble vegetables such as spinach coulis will sublimate this exceptional wine.
Serving and cellaring
The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" Héritiers Louis Jadot 2020 can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve favourably until around 2046. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity.
A Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru combining power and minerality
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot stands as one of the essential references of Burgundy. Based in Beaune, this négociant-éleveur house today oversees around 270 hectares of vines spread across the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Since 1985, the estate has belonged to the Kopf family, who have preserved the identity and values of the house. Since September 2022, Thomas Seiter has served as president while Thibault Gagey, representing the third generation of this family within the company, holds the position of general manager. Maison Louis Jadot distinguishes itself through its commitment to respectful viticulture, excluding all chemical herbicides, and through its exclusive production of wines from controlled appellations of origin.
The vineyard
Chevalier-Montrachet represents one of the most prestigious grands crus of Burgundy, extending over just over seven hectares on the heights of Puligny-Montrachet. The "Les Demoiselles" parcel, covering half a hectare, benefits from a south-south-east exposure on particularly steep slopes. The exceptionally chalky soils, composed of limestone, chalk, clay and siliceous elements, give the wines that crystalline minerality so characteristic of the site. This historic parcel, which belonged to the ancestors of the Jadot family before being sold in 1846, was repurchased in 1913. Its name pays tribute to Adèle and Julie Voillot, the ancestresses who tended it in the 19th century.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage is characterised by a particularly warm year in Burgundy, marked by generous sunshine and limited rainfall during the critical phases of ripening. These climatic conditions favoured excellent phenolic maturity of the Chardonnay grapes, while preserving the acidity essential to the balance of great white wines. The harvest took place noticeably earlier than the usual average, reflecting the precocity of the growing cycle.
Winemaking and ageing
The production of Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" Héritiers Louis Jadot 2020 begins with manual harvesting in small crates, followed by rigorous sorting of the berries. After gentle pressing, the must ferments in barrels from the Cadus cooperage, owned by the House, thanks to indigenous yeasts. About a third of the barrels used are new, the rest consisting of barrels of various ages. Ageing continues for fifteen months on fine lees, with regular bâtonnage to enrich the texture and develop aromatic complexity while maintaining the freshness characteristic of the terroir.
