    Vinum

Of a firm, angular, robust style, even somewhat rustic, it should benefit from some ageing.

    Decanter

Rose touches raspberries and red cherries, lovely florality and fresh red berries on the nose with some white chocolate too. Vibrant and lively, lovely acidity here, and really gorgeous creaminess giving the weight but also the crunchiness and bite giving intensity. Lots of wet stones and liquorice but overall really fresh and appealing. More darkly toned on the palate. Clean. Well worked. Not complex. But still lovely structure, nice persistence and Cabernet aspects.

Attractive blackberries and currants with dark chocolate and walnut undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with solid fruit concentration and firm, polished tannins. Firm, chocolaty finish. Try after 2024.

    Falstaff

Intense ruby, purple reflections, a discreet brightening on the rim. Subtle fresh herbs, ripe plums, preserved cherries. Medium complexity, red wild berries, fine tannins, a subtle sweetness, accessible, uncomplicated.

Lightweight, with attractive bright fruits; this is approachable rather than hugely concentrated, with some bright acidities.

The 2020 Peyrabon is deep garnet-purple in color. It rolls out with notes of black and red cherries, mulberries, and pencil lead, plus a fragrant waft of lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate is bright and breezy with crunchy fruit, soft tannins and a lively finish.

    La RVF

The most promising of the recent vintages is undoubtedly the 2020, sleek and self-assured, with beautifully expressive fruit and a finish with well-integrated tannins. A great deal at a very accessible price.

    Le Figaro Vin

A delicate, fresh nose, evoking red fruits and spring flower petals. On the palate, pure, ultra-fresh fruit with firm, wood-derived tannins that are still integrating and refining.

    Yves Beck

Peyrabon 2020, acquired by the Castéja family in June 2022, reveals itself with plenty of energy, freshness and fruity notes. Elegant, the wine has velvety tannins that provide breadth and power, while the acidic structure brings liveliness and thus freshness. A wine that stands out for its harmony, character and persistent finish. What a great success! I hadn’t picked it up this well during the en primeur tastings.

    Vertdevin

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose offers plenty of fruit and indulgence. It shows notes of wild strawberry, morello cherry, blackcurrant, wild blackberry, and raspberry coulis, combined with notes of vanilla, licorice stick, and clove, as well as a fine touch of juniper berries and ground nutmeg in the background. There are also notes of pine needles, violet, and dried mint, along with a hint of coffee and toasted almond on the finish. On the palate, the wine delivers lovely fruit density, concentration, and freshness. It reveals notes of fresh morello cherry, fresh blackcurrant, blackberry, wild plum, wild strawberry, and crushed blueberry, together with notes of licorice, vanilla, clove, ground coffee, cocoa, and toasted almond, as well as touches of aromatic herbs (dried mint, bouquet garni), violet, and dried wildflowers. The tannins are firm and give the wine a solid structure without being drying, thanks to a lively, mouthwatering acidity. Good length focused on fruit and gourmandise. A structured wine, yet already accessible.

    Terre de Vins

The initial nose offers intense notes of slightly tangy dark fruits, closely followed by spices. While the attack on the palate remains supple, the tannins nonetheless assert themselves, always with elegance.

    Description

The inimitable style of a great Haut-Médoc red wine with sublime aging potential

    The estate

Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the doorstep of Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a lush green setting. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone significant restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and the winery. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Peyrabon is a very fine reference in Haut-Médoc. It offers wines that are representative of the appellation, elegant and powerful, promising superb aging potential.

    The vineyard

In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, the Château Peyrabon vineyard spans approximately 37 hectares of vines aged 28 years on average, planted on sandy gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils are found on 5 hectares of the vineyard. This Haut-Médoc vineyard holds ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certification, with phytosanitary protection carried out using sustainable pest management.

    The vintage

For this 2020 vintage, the harvest at Château Peyrabon was carried out both manually and mechanically. It began on September 17th for the Merlot and ended on October 6th with the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes, transferred by vibrating hopper, undergo destemming and optical sorting. Plot-by-plot vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, accompanied by pump-overs, punch-downs, and rack-and-return techniques adapted to favor gentle extraction. The press wines are separated and then selected after tasting. Barreling is partially carried out at run-off. Aging lasts for 14 months in barrels (25% new wood), followed by fining in vats.

    Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), Merlot (38%), Cabernet Franc (5%), Petit Verdot (3%).
