    Terre de Vins

The wine shows a certain concentration on the nose, echoed on the palate, where the body is supported by lovely aromatics and a serious tannin structure that loosens slightly in the second half of the palate. It is a wine that already offers good drinkability.

Juicy, crisp, racy, approachable and very drinkable.

    Decanter

A dark nose, rich and ripely scented with dark fruits, blackcurrants, damsons and herbal accents. Lean and taut, with a nice structure, clean and well presented, sleek yet nicely textured, with grippy, stony tannins that coat the mouth. Structured and intense but also linear and streamlined, with mouthwatering acidity offsetting the density and giving an appealing push of energy. Nice balance of quality and value. First vintage since the Casteja family bought the estate in June 2022. Harvest from 16 September to 4 October. Yield of 19.9 hl/ha. Ageing in French oak for 14 months, 30% new. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Tasted twice.

The 2022 Peyrabon offers a slightly more floral bouquet than its peers, with generous aromas of lush black cherry and boysenberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate has a sweet entry and is fleshy and savory, with a touch of spice and clove on the finish. I actually prefer the aromatics to the palate at the moment.

Better in the bottle than from the barrel, the floral, tobacco, and blackberry nose is just as appealing as the fresh, black-currant-packed, medium-bodied, chewy palate. Drink from 2025–2038.

    Falstaff

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections. Dark berry fruit with delicate tobacco undertones, some forest floor. Juicy, powerful, chocolatey texture, vivid, supporting tannins, mineral-salty finish, lingers, a savoury, uncomplicated food companion. (25/1, PM).

Rich plum in colour, with the right kind of austerity to the tannic architecture that suggests plenty of ageing potential. Good balance, cassis, spice box, cigar, tobacco leaf, firm tannins, impressive. On the border of Pauillac, owned by the Casteja family of Borie Manoux since September 2022, making them responsible for the vinification and ageing of this 2022 vintage. 30% new oak, sandy gravel over clay, 19.9 hl/ha yield. Director: Xavier Michelet, consultant: Axel Marchal. One point up since En Primeur.

    Le Figaro Vin

Opulent, stewed fruits draw attention from the very first aromas. The palate is rich and fresh, framed by tight tannins.

A great deal of finesse in Peyrabon’s bouquet, with delicate notes of blueberry, elderberry and eucalyptus, along with wafts of liquorice and cocoa bean. Medium in density, the wine has powerful, fine-grained tannins that provide excellent support across the entire palate. An elegant wine that can certainly be enjoyed in its youth, though it still deserves a little time to blossom.

The nose is fruity with a hint of creaminess and fine intensity. There are notes of creamy blackberry, fleshy small fruits and, more subtly, fairly ripe strawberry, combined with touches of sweet spice and fresh vanilla that bring a delicate richness. The palate is fruity, with freshness and minerality, carried by a zesty backbone with precision and tension. There is indulgence and a touch of silkiness within the richness. We find notes of supple blackcurrant, creamy blackberry and, more lightly, roasted raspberry, along with hints of chocolate, toast, and a lovely roasted note and toasted almond. The tannins are plush.

    Description

The complexity and finesse of a Haut-Médoc red wine

    The estate

Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, at the gateway to Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a lush green setting. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone significant restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and the winery. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Peyrabon is a very fine reference in Haut-Médoc. It offers wines that are representative of the appellation, elegant and powerful, with superb aging potential.

Since September 2022, Château Peyrabon and Château Fleur Peyrabon have been acquired by the BCAP group (Castéja family), notably the owners of Château Batailley and Château Lynch-Moussas.

    The vineyard

This Château Peyrabon 2022 is a Haut-Médoc wine from a vineyard of approximately 37 hectares. Averaging 29 years of age, the vines are planted on sandy gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils are found on 5 hectares of the vineyard. The vineyard holds ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certifications, with phytosanitary protection carried out using sustainable pest management.

    Winemaking and aging

The grapes, transferred by vibrating hopper, undergo destemming and optical sorting before crushing and vatting. Plot-by-plot vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. Average maceration of 21 days. Press wines are separated and then selected after tasting. Barreling is partially carried out at run-off. Aging lasts 14 months in barrels (30% new wood), followed by fining in vats.

    Blend

Château Peyrabon 2022 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (34%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Petit Verdot (3%).
