Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Morgon "Cuvée Marcel Lapierre" 2024
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by brilliant violet highlights.
Nose
The bouquet reveals great complexity, exuding aromas of ripe cherry and fresh dark fruits. It then opens onto floral notes of violet and peony, heightened by spicy touches of liquorice and aniseed, along with a flinty minerality.
Palate
The attack is bold and dynamic, introducing a fleshy texture carried by remarkably fine, particularly silky tannins. The balance between fruity concentration and mineral tension delivers a persistent finish, fresh and subtly spicy.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats, veal chops with mushrooms, or confit poultry. It also goes very well with fine charcuterie such as pâté en croûte, as well as aged pressed-curd cheeses.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Morgon "Cuvée Marcel Lapierre" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, after decanting for thirty minutes to an hour. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2036.
Other characteristics
This wine stands out for its highly natural approach: it is neither fined nor filtered.
The authentic expression of a great terroir by Domaine M. Lapierre
The estate
Founded in 1909, Domaine M. Lapierre is a true institution in Beaujolais. It was under the guidance of Marcel Lapierre, starting in the 1980s, that the estate became a pioneer in the production of natural wines. Today, his children, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, are at the helm of the estate. They passionately carry on this philosophy of respect for living organisms across a vineyard spanning 18 hectares. The estate is renowned worldwide for its uncompromising approach, producing cuvées that reflect the purest expression of their terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come from exceptional plots located within the Morgon appellation, more specifically on the prestigious terroirs of Côte du Py and the Le Douby lieu-dit. The vines, over a hundred years old, thrive at altitudes between 250 and 400 metres on poor soils composed of decomposed granite and schist. The vineyard is managed according to organic and biodynamic principles, with soil tillage carried out using horses to preserve the ecosystem.
The vintage
The weather conditions in the region this year made it possible to achieve a perfect balance. The growing cycle benefited from a climate that favoured both complete phenolic ripeness of the berries and the preservation of optimal acidity, ensuring freshness for the upcoming harvest.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested with an extremely rigorous selection process. The Morgon "Cuvée Marcel Lapierre" 2024 is vinified using the traditional semi-carbonic maceration method, lasting between ten and twenty-one days, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes extended aging of twelve to fifteen months in 228-litre oak barrels, refining its structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
Grape variety
Gamay (100%).
