    Vinous

    Neal Martin

The 2024 Morgon, which I tasted last year from barrel, comes with and without SO2. This is the latter. It has a lively nose with redcurrant and cranberry fruit, lilting in style, unpretentious. The palate is well balanced, with slightly rustic tannins, a keen line of acidity, bright brambly red fruit and a crisp chalky finish. Very fine.

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Morgon 2024 M. Lapierre

    Tasting

    Colour
This French red wine reveals a brilliant ruby hue, enhanced by violet highlights typical of its youth.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a burst of fresh red fruits such as raspberry, wild strawberry and morello cherry. This is enhanced by floral nuances and a delicate earthy touch reflecting its granite terroir.

    Palate
The palate offers a velvety texture combining density with great finesse. It stands out for its vibrant acidity and silky tannins, revealing flavours of cherry and liquorice. A flinty minerality accompanies a fresh, energetic finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with traditional charcuterie, terrines or coq au vin. It also complements grilled meats, beef bourguignon, pot-au-feu, or even lighter dishes such as grilled vegetables and fondue bourguignonne.

    Service and storage

To fully appreciate this 2024 Morgon, it is recommended to serve it slightly chilled, just below room temperature, to maximise its aromatic expression.

    Other characteristics

This dry wine is characterised by a low residual sugar level, with no chaptalisation, and has an alcohol content ranging between 12.5% and 13%.

The elegance and purity of a great Beaujolais wine

    The estate

Founded in 1909 in Villié-Morgon, the M. Lapierre estate is a true benchmark in Beaujolais. Initially conventional, the estate underwent a decisive shift in the 1980s under the guidance of Marcel Lapierre, becoming a pioneer of environmentally friendly viticulture. Today, his children, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, run this 18-hectare vineyard. They passionately continue the family legacy, producing authentic wines that combine immediate drinkability with remarkable complexity, while showcasing the pure expression of their terroir.

    The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from around ten hectares located in the heart of the Morgon appellation. The vines, with an average age of 60 years, thrive on soils composed of sandy decomposed granite, typical of this cru. The estate rigorously applies the principles of organic farming, certified since 2004, thereby encouraging deep rooting and an authentic expression of the terroir.

    The vintage

The year began with abundant flowering, requiring ideal weather conditions to reach optimal ripeness. The return of warm, sunny weather at the end of August and beginning of September allowed the berries to ripen perfectly. The harvest then took place in early September under excellent weather and sanitary conditions.

    Winemaking and ageing

This 2024 Morgon is made using traditional semi-carbonic maceration, carried out without any additives or commercial yeasts. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, punctuated by regular pump-overs for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged on fine lees for six to nine months, in used Burgundy oak barrels and large neutral foudres, before being bottled without filtration or fining.
